Recognize the difference in formative & summative assessent
Objective
Examine various technology tools for assessment
As a refresher, formative assessment refers to assessment activities that are carried out during the learning process, with the goal of providing ongoing feedback to both the teacher and the student. The purpose of formative assessment is to monitor student learning and provide continuous feedback that can be used to improve the teaching and learning process. Formative assessment helps teachers identify areas where students are struggling, so they can adjust their instructional strategies accordingly. It also allows students to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses, and take steps to improve their learning.
Summative assessment, on the other hand, is assessment that occurs at the end of a learning unit, course, or program. The purpose of summative assessment is to evaluate student learning, achievement, and mastery of the subject matter after a period of instruction. Summative assessments are used to determine if students have met the learning objectives or standards set for the course or program. The results of summative assessments are often used for grading, promotion, or accountability purposes.
