A zine (pronounced zeen, short for magazine or fanzine) is a self-published, independently produced publication that allows individuals or communities to share ideas, experiences, interests, and creative work outside mainstream media. Zine culture values self-expression, experimentation, accessibility, and community-building, often amplifying alternative voices, niche interests, and underrepresented perspectives through low-cost, grassroots forms of print and distribution. Zine publishing is rooted in DIY production, offering creators complete editorial freedom and control and is it the heart of the Raw Print Archive.
