RIP Zine 1 is an independent publication outcome from my MA and was produced during the Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020. It explored the tangible power of print by inviting seven artists and designers to respond to the theme Read In Peace, bringing together illustration, typography, poetry and experimental publishing within a single printed object. The project explored how the physical qualities of a magazine could become part of the reading experience, using format, materials and interaction as an extension of the editorial concept. An interview with renowned graphic artist Anthony Burrill was concealed within sealed pages that readers had to physically rip open to access, while the dust jacket unfolded into a poster designed by Burrill. Across 94 pages, the publication brought together a diverse collection of creative responses while celebrating the possibilities of print as a tactile medium. RIP Zine became an argument for print made through print itself, designed not simply to be read, but to be handled, ripped, unfolded and kept.
