On Nov 14th GSLIS and QCLISSA organized a Professional Development event with guest speakers that included local members of the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA); Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA); Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA); and REFORMA: The National Association to Promote Library & Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish. Students engaged in activities that invited them reflect on their core values and their mission as future librarians, inspired and guided by these professionals. It was also an event to showcase the strength and many opportunities available to students through these organizations that reflect the diversity of the population many of them will serve in the NYC area.
Earlier on the same day, students from the Archive Certificate enjoyed a fantastic workshop on digital repositories and CMS for archives, lead by representatives of some prominent NYC institutions: Barnard College, LaGuardia Community College, METRO,New York Academy of Medicine, and New York Historical Society.
