Community Council

What is a Community Council and what does it do? 

The Community Council is a non-political organisation, set up by statute, which represents the concerns of the people of the Quothquan and Thankerton Community Council area and will where necessary pursue the concerns of residents to South Lanarkshire Council and other organisations as necessary. We seek the views and input from all our communities.   

Your Community Council members are all people who care about our community and want to make it a great place to live, and Your Community Council also aims to bring local people together to help make things happen.

Community Council Meetings.

The Quothquan and Thankerton community Council meetings take place on the Last Wednesday in January, March, May, July, September and November. These meetings normally start at 7pm and last no more than two hours.

MICROGRANTS;

We have been asked to explain how the SSE Microgrant Scheme operates.

Microgrants are administered by your Community Council in line with the following rules:

Application Limits

• You may submit one microgrant application at a time.

• If your application is successful, you must wait 12 months before applying again.

• If your application is unsuccessful, you may submit a new application immediately.

Demand and Prioritisation

Our microgrant scheme has historically been oversubscribed, and we therefore give priority to community groups rather than individual applicants.

Eligible Activities

Microgrants support community‑focused or charitable activities that:

• Improve quality of life for local residents

• Support a healthy, active community

• Encourage community spirit, participation, and inclusion

Activities That Cannot Be Funded

Microgrants cannot be awarded for:

• Work that does not benefit residents of the Community Council area

• Religious or Political activities

• Costs already incurred

• Activities that fall under statutory responsibilities

• Projects that solely benefit plants or wildlife

• Anti‑renewable energy activities

All awarded microgrant funding must be spent within one year.
