Appropriate Space Considerations

Read below about particular spaces for Size, Sun/Shade and Display Constraints

Although we can not guarantee the space of your dreams, we will do our best to help you get a comfortable, functional place to show.

"I need a lot of space."

Ask for a larger spot and be sure to specify if the space must be square. The courtyard is not square, so some of those spots get wonky. Wonky spots have a greater total square footage than a square 10x10' spot, but be sure you can enjoy an irregular space.

📐The potentially overall biggest but wild and lumpy spots are #6 & #7, but these are better if you don't actually expand all the way to the sidewalk. The blue area can get tight with spots right across from each other.

📐The biggest tame-but-not-square space is #23. You can expand to the right all the way to the steps if you need to.

📐Big, square 10x10 spots = #25, #26, #28. These spots are important for people who have professional booths with constrained sizes. If you don't need that, please think carefully before you pick one of these as your first choice.

📐Big, wild-card/weird-shaped spots = #18, #27

📐#19 is skinny but has fifteen feet of wall space.

These courtyard spaces are big and sunny.

These artists made wild space #7 expansive and homey with carpets, tables and chairs. (But too close to the sidewalk)

If you have a standard 10x10 canopy, we need to know, because relatively few of the spaces will accomodate it.

The BLUE area beside the church shown behind this group of people is shady much of the day.

"I love a cool spot"

"I need shade to protect my colors."

The spots under the covered walkway (PURPLE = #s 15, 16, 17, 19, 20,21, 22, 23).  There is dappled light along the side of the church (BLUE = #s 6, 7, 8, 9, 10). These are pleasant, but if consistent shade is essential, you will need to bring adequate light protection.

The shining, white canopy shown above is protecting a very sunny space which is actually in the supposedly-shady, BLUE area beside the church. The deep shade behind the crowd pictured next is the same area at another time of day. You can just see the tip of the white canopy tucked away in the dark between the redwoods and the wall of the church. No spot is 100% sunny or shady.

Shade and sun change throughout the day. Even the courtyard is shaded by evening.

"I love a warm spot."

"I need sunshine to make my glasswork sparkle."

The sunniest spots are along the entrance path (ORANGE = #s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) or in the courtyard (YELLOW = #s 24, 25, 26, 27, 28). But take a close look at the google maps shot above. The shadows of the towering trees behind the church are splayed across the "sunny" courtyard and the supposedly shady area beside the church (BLUE) is in dappled light. The conditions shift throughout the day. The photo must have been taken in the early evening, so we may all be gone by then, but be prepared for mother nature with all her cruel wit.

"I need vertical display space, but there are no walls to hang things on."

Here are some considerations since we can not attach anything to the walls at the church.

         (BLUE = #s 6, 7, 8, 9, 10)

         (PURPLE = #s 15, 16, 17, 19, 20,21, 22, 23)

(YELLOW = #s 25, 26, 27, 28) = seat height behind the wrap-around bench edge (check out the picture on the "Spaces" page for a photo.)

ORANGE = #s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 = ground level

GREEN = #18 ground level behind a bench

Pinkish Spaces are 5x10

Green Spaces are 6x10

Blueish Spaces are 10x10

Green and Orange Spaces are our wild cards which can be any size or shape.

"I have never shown at a fair before. What can I do to show my work?"
