Arts Fest

Spaces

Anyone with substantial inventory and a desire to sell their art will need an assigned space. This page is where you can learn more about your options

If you would prefer to show and maybe sell only one or two works more gallery style, the Group Exhibition would be a better fit.

Which space is appropriate for my art needs?

This current page gives a brief description of the areas where you can find a space. There may be more to think about, however, if you have particular set-up needs. For example,  maximum sun or shade, if you need vertical space for hanging or if you have a professional set-up of a certain size.

Or simply continue on to learn about the attributes of spaces by area.

The church grounds are not large, but to make things easier, I have broken the spaces into different groups depending on shared attributes -- especially light exposure and location.

Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple...

Orange:

Entrance Pathway -- ORANGE

These spaces are the first you see as you arrive. The photos are taken from the edge of the parking. They run along the path from the parking lot to the corner of the church. They are bright and sunny. That may mean hot, but it really made the glass and ceramics sparkle.

The majority of spaces in the orange area are essentially 6x10 feet, though you can see in the picture above that the artists were (respectfully) creative in their use of the garden space as well. Space 5 is a very particular space, perched among the benches -- perfect for some, terrible for others. I encourage anyone interested in this space to visit the place before choosing it to determine if it will work for you.

Thanks to Linda Hubbard and InMenlo for the photgraph of Sally Graves Jackson in that space.

Blue:

Left of the Church -- BLUE
This is the space to the left of the corner of the church which is a bit off the beaten path. It is cooler under the trees with dappled shade in the morning, bright sun only for a short time mid day and then protections from afternoon sun because of the building. These spots have the building wall behind them. Although no nails, etc. can be used for hanging, you can lean display against the wall.

This area has changed every year. The spaces along the sanctuary are 6x10 feet.

The spaces under the trees are very rough with uneven ground and ambiguous borders. You will love them or hate them.

Green:

Along the Front of the Sanctuary -- GREEN

More spaces line the path from the corner of the church sanctuary to the entrance doors. The spaces are sunny, but feel somehow cooler since they back up on more greenery.

Last year seemed to work pretty well, so this area didnt change.

For new comers, the spaces are a little tighter feeling at 5' deep and there is a bush along the way which accounts for the gap.

Space 18 is another wildcard space. You can see it at the far end above under the white canopy. In 2022 it was a bit of a pinch point, because it was bordered by artists' spaces on two sides. In 2023, it was less cramped because it was only lightly filled and worked cleverly with the architcture allowing people to move easily through. With creativity, it is a lovely, energy-filled spot. Just look at those gorgeous, red boughs! The pilars and benches could be used to good effect given the right art on display. Worst spot or best? It's a wildcard. Only you know where your work will show best. Here is a photo of that space from the other side.

Yellow:

Courtyard / Patio -- YELLOW

These spaces are along the perimeter of the "yellow," sunken “courtyard” leaving an open center. The courtyard is bordered on one side by the covered walkway of the church and on all other sides by a bench built on top of the retaining wall and the planting areas. This is a bright and sunny area with only a bit of late afternoon sun on the walkway side.

Based on last year's artist feedback, the most important area to improve is the interface between the courtyard and the covered walkway. Thus we will be experimenting with removing two, very nice spaces we have had in the past. I am sorry about this, but I hope the area will be enlivened by moving the hangout tables and wine to this area.

If you want a super-standard 10x10 space, this is where you want to be. Space 25 and 28 can accomote a booth with three full sides, but space 26 really works best to be welcoming with the left side open to people coming down the steps as you can see above in Terry Ow Wing's blue-clothed set up from 2022.

Purple

Covered Walkway -- Purple

Narrow but comfortable spaces fit under the upper covered walkway (to the left on the map) while the lower covered walkway has mini and maxi spots (to the right). This is certainly where you want to be if you need guaranteed shade.

Thanks to Linda Hubbard and InMenlo for the photo of Bruce Beron.

LOWER WALKWAY

Last year, the lower walkway spaces were a bit burried behind large booths in the courtyard. This is why this year, those large booth spaces will be gone and the walkway should feel more open to everything.  The lower walkway has two wildcard spaces: #21 & #23. I think #21 would work best if it were not a closed booth but instead uses the back wall for hanging as well as some clever use of the poles with some sort of table in the middle. Boline Strand's jewelry setup you can see above from last year was very good. The person in #23 could expand to fill the whole space to the right all the way to the steps if someone needs a lot of room but is not constrained by a strictly 10x10 footprint (maybe it is 8'x15'?)

UPPER WALKWAY

The spaces are not deep. Most are 5x10 feet and even then it may be a bit tight. Be restrained in your set-up to help the flow of traffic. The wild card space #19 is only 3 feet deep, but people seemed to like these spots. They have the benefit of the wall behind them to lean things on and are thus great for vertical display for 2D work or they could be good for small-scale 3D work displayed on pillars or a narrow table. Space #15 made some use of the near-by garden space last year. The restrooms are just beyond the upper walkway spaces.
