Voices from the past and future - do we connect to our cosmic heritage?

Marjut Partanen-Hertell

This sociodrama workshop will focus on the human being as an actor on Earth. J. L. Moreno noted that we are more than biological, economical, sociological and psychological creatures – we are first of all cosmic beings. We are co-creators of our world and co-responsible for all of mankind, and the whole biome. The rise of the great civilisations of Homo Sapiens is a success story, from 10 000 individuals during the last Ice Age to a population of nearly 8 billion today. There have been storms along the way!

We will look at the past, the present and the future. We might experience the life of our ancestors. Our acts today will influence the lives of millions of creatures in the future, among them our own offspring. We can change roles with our descendants living with the consequences of environmental destruction. Do we now continue living years of plenty or do we choose to strive for another kind of abundance: biodiversity, fairness and a healthy, clean environment? How to expand our consciousness from the individual to the cosmic plane, to become a cosmic being and to find harmony, hope and a new way of life?

Sustainable acts demand environmental awareness, which consists of knowledge, skills and motivation. With sociodrama and other Morenian means it is possible to develop all these qualities, especially the difficult one: motivation. Feelings combined with insight generate motivation as does a cosmic sense of transpersonal we-ness, trust and hope.

We will study our everyday decisions that make an impact on all the levels of the biome. Are we ready to invest in a sustainable future, trough everyday choices, political participation, networking, creating environmental groups and working in organisations and companies that share a sustainable culture? In the workshop we will explore and experience the possibilities of Morenian means and philosophy in keeping our own species alive and our living planet prosperous.
