Welcome to Wiring Senses, the second annual exhibition of the Jockey Club Project IDEA. This exhibition invites visitors to explore the transformative power of multisensory experiences, highlighting the fundamental role our senses play in shaping our understanding of the world. Often taken for granted, sensory experiences are not only fundamental to our identity but also rich with beauty and inspiration. As our senses work in concert to shape our memories and perceptions, the artistic practice of mapping, converting, or transforming signals between different sensory modalities enriches creative expression and opens up new paths for discovery.
The title of Wiring Senses embodies the idea of connection, both in the literal sense of wiring electronic components and in the metaphorical sense of linking diverse sensory experiences through technological innovation. Modern technologies and new materials empower us to transform sensory information, enabling different senses to complement one another. This capability allows us to share experiences and artistic concepts with individuals living with disabilities, making art accessible to all. For instance, visualizing sound for those with hearing impairments or converting visual information into tactile and audio signals for people with visual impairments fosters engagement and dialogue.
This exhibition showcases two sets of artworks, DrawSound and SnapSound. These works are the creations of talented students from 20 local secondary schools participating in Jockey Club Project IDEA. Through inclusive art and technology workshops, these students have developed original pieces that communicate artistic concepts through multisensory experiences.
