“DrawSound 2.0” builds on the 1.0 version by adding tactile effect, helping people with visual impairments understand images more effectively. The design is inspired by tactile graphics provided for blind or visually impaired visitors in the exhibitions.
During creation, students used conductive ink and special swell form paper for making tactile graphics to transform flat images into a three-dimensional interactive, touch-sensitive interface. The paper’s surface is coated with a heat-activated swelling layer. Images or text are printed onto it and then heated with an swell form graphics machine; the ink/line areas swell and form raised textures, enabling tactile images and labels to be produced quickly and at low cost. Students then add conductive below, turning the tactile image into a sensor. By touching the surface, users can activate signals that produce sound—and this multi-sensory integration also provides the audience with a richer interactive experience.
電子聲音創作平台 Ableton Learning Synths、Audacity和Arduino 軟硬件的運用;
繪畫互動介面:利用導電媒體(如conductive ink),創作出觸控式畫作;
In the workshop, students learn to operate different software and hardware to transform their artwork into electronic musical instruments. Students will learn:
The use of electronic sound creation platforms Ableton Learning Synths, Audacity, and Arduino hardware and software;
Interactive drawing interfaces: creating touch-sensitive artwork using conductive media (such as conductive ink);
Students will use conductive drawing materials (such as conductive ink and pencils) on a specially designed swell form paper. The embossing paper has a heat-expanding coating; after images or text are printed on it and heated by swell form graphics machine, the ink lines will bulge into a three-dimensional texture, quickly and cost-effectively creating touchable images and markings, improving the tactile reading experience for visually impaired viewers. Then, through programming, they will create touch-sensitive artwork.
Combining these techniques, students will create unique visual and sound artworks and explore the possibilities of creating inclusive art using conductive media.
