Just three years after Siegel and Shuster created a huge hit with their Superman comic, Max and Dave Fleischer released the first of their classic animated shorts. According to Wikipedia:

"The first nine cartoons were produced by Fleischer Studios (the name by which the cartoons are commonly known). In 1942, Fleischer Studios was dissolved and reorganized as Famous Studios, which produced the final eight shorts. These cartoons are seen as some of the finest, and certainly the most lavishly budgeted, animated cartoons produced during The Golden Age of American animation." "The first nine cartoons had more of a science fiction aspect to them, as they involved the Man of Steel fighting robots, giant dinosaurs, meteors from outer space, and other perils. The later eight cartoons in the series dealt more with World War II propaganda stories, such as in Eleventh Hour, which finds Superman going to Japan to commit acts of espionage in order to reduce the morale of the enemy."

The model I've designed is patterned directly from the still above. However, I have included several choices of chest emblems if you prefer your model to look more like the comic book version. You can modify the model in a paint program, or simply cut and glue over the existing one.

It is interesting to note that Superman's chest emblem went through many variations before it came to the present "S-in-a-Diamond" that we all think of now. Sometimes the emblem actually changed in detail within the confines of the same story!
