Exhibit 6

Direct the Eye

Background Information:

The mountain man rendezvous is a traditional event held at Buffalo Point Elementary each year. At this event students learn what it was like to live in that era. The kids dress up as Mountain man, Cowboys/Cowgirls, and Native Americans. My friend Josh Hughes volunteered to help and he is with his 4th grade daughter. I cut their images off of the original photo and placed them on this background.

Design Thoughts:

  • Focus: The focus of this image is purposefully guiding the viewer's eyes through the structure of the graphic to view our lovely Delicate Arch.

  • Balance: The major images on the left and the right of this work bring balance and equilibrium to its entirety.

  • Effects: I have taken the image one more step below. In Camera Raw I have changed the contrast of the background and the foreground so they match better.

Photoshop:

  • The quick selection tool works great to effectively and swiftly extract one image to place on another.

  • For this assignment I used the pen tool and created a mask. I was then able to cut out the white showing.

  • I flipped the orientation of the arch and added the gold arrow head for the finishing touch.

More Info:

Education has always been my passion. I taught at this school for three years as a Spanish Immersion Educator. I love teaching and believe the children are our future.

There's nothing I miss more then helping 500+ little ones discover and develop a love for learning. We all should do our part to help raise up the next generation.
