The weeding process is ongoing in order to improve the quality of the collection. I tend to use The Library Girl's motto of keeping it FRESH (see photo to the left, found on the New York City School Library System website). During the yearly inventory, I look at the collection globally and then spend concentrated time in areas that show the greatest need. When I arrived here in 2019, there were 5192 books in the collection with an average age of 2003 overall, 2009 for fiction, and 2000 for non-fiction. By the end of inventory in November 2019, the collection was weeded to 4016 books with an average age of 2005 overall, 2010 for fiction, and 2003 for non-fiction. Today, our collection holds 4452 books with an average age of 2007 overall, 2011 for fiction, and 2004 for non-fiction.
