When students read for pleasure in high school, they mostly choose fiction titles or graphic novels. For research, they gravitate towards digital resources since keeping relevant non-fiction titles is cost-prohibitive. Because of this, we abolished the Reference Section, weeded many dated non-fiction titles, and tried to even the balance of fiction to non-fiction titles available. The result shows fewer titles available in the collection overall, but a non-fiction section that is more up-to-date and we encourage students to access online research tools provided for them, such as Gale Database and Britannica School.
