Multiple copies are purchased each year and students who read the books are given dog tags and get to vote for their favorite each spring.
In addition to receiving a tag for each book, students get an "I Read Them All!" brag tag.
Students can visit the virtual media center to access e-books and audiobooks, and to find out more information about the Florida Teens Read titles.
The media center is an integral part of school-wide literacy activities, especially during Literacy Week.
This year, every student who checked out a book during literacy week was given a coupon for extra credit in their ELA classes. Circulation increased by over 50% during January because of this promotion.
We welcome students for everything in media, not just reading. Once they come, they often end up checking out books. They frequently get excited about the MANGA section and the fact that we don't charge late fees.
They come to play, to study, to chill, and to read. This is a safe place for ALL.
PRHS hosts an Early Childhood Program. We like to read to the Pee Wee Panthers. A love of reading that starts early tends to remain for a lifetime.
It is wonderful when students show their appreciation for the media specialist.
High school students still get excited about book fairs. The first thing to sell out? Finger pointers. EVERY...SINGLE...YEAR!
Dynamic displays help pique interest.
Over 30 students signed up for the book club this year. Next year, we hope for 50.
