The Media Center supports all areas of academics at Pine Ridge High School. We are especially supportive of Area of Focus #2--ELA Achievement. Only 41% of students showed proficiency, well below the state and county averages. While not specifically mentioned as a strategy in the SIP, I have been collaborating with teachers, especially 9th-grade reading, ELA, and ELL teachers, to provide resources to support their lessons/standards (such as e-books, audiobooks, high-interest/low-level books, diverse books, graphic novels, etc.). When students read more, their comprehension and performance on assessments improve.

I also serve on the School Leadership Team and chair the School Media Advisory Council. These groups provide opportunities to support all academic areas and to share accomplishments and concerns with all stakeholders.
