My Client is Film Buddy they are asking me to release a project with the theme-Escape. They are asking me to produce this to present to them in June. I am allowed to pick my target audience but it must be justified and evidenced within my blog my project will be for any age. The deadline is 02/05/2025 so in 2 and a half months and the resubmission is 06/06/2025 so a month after the initial deadline.
The Purpose of my Gantt Chart is to help me plan and track my progress over the course of my project. I am presenting my Gantt chart with multiple screenshots to show the progression over the course of the products production as well as explanations detailing progress made since the last screenshot. I will try to keep the progress weekly but if I don't make enough progress in one week I will add screenshots when considerable progress is achieved.
This is how far I have made it by the start of week 3 I am going to do some research on colour and composition and market research and USP this week I am still yet to choose an idea for my project and I have come up with a few but I haven chosen one yet.
This is how far I have made it by the beginning of week 4 i have stuck to my schedule and completed colour and composition research as well as market research and USP.
This is where i am at the start of week 5 I fell a bit behind my schedule so I needed to adjust it a bit so this week i plan to do innovation and technical research and also historical and contemporary research.
This is where I am by the beginning of week 6 I have struggled to focus on doing work but I have actually managed to do some of the work for my project over the weekend. My target this week is to make it onto pre production and hopefully to project planning.
This is where I am at the beginning of week 9 I will be starting production as I have failed to start it for the past 2 weeks since week 6 I have finished pre production I will only be documenting progress between parts of my project instead of weekly as some weeks I do not get a lot done so there is no point of documenting it.
By the beginning of week 11 I have finished production and I will starting pre-production i have got back to a decent pace of doing work probably because the project finishes soon so I need to try get it done.
By week 12 I have finished my project I still have some things to change on resubmission but overall it didn't go too bad I just wish I had focused more towards the middle.
Researching different photographers is important as it gives you a different perspective and can also give you inspiration for your own project.
One example of a popular photographer is Martin Parr who is a British documentary photographer and photojournalist who is known for is photographic projects that take an intimate and satirical look at modern life. I will mainly focus on his photography but he also does photojournalism.
Some of my favourite pictures of his are: Martin Parr| West Bay (Seagulls Eating Chips) (1996) | Artsy and The Last Resort. I like these photos as there is something funny about them but also they are nostalgic and take a look at modern life they also just look vibrant and interesting. The meaning of his photos is to explore the peculiarities and eccentricities of British life his work is a commentary on the humorous scenario's in mundane every day life. What i will take from this is that my photos don't have to be overly complicated to communicate my theme or to convey a commentary on something it can just show something in a certain light. It is amazing he is able to do this with minimal editing and just photographing people and events.
Another example of a photographer is Andy Goldsworthy he is an English sculptor and photographer and environmentalist who produces site-specific sculptures and land art situated in natural or urban settings. The message of his works is that nature will not be around for ever so we should respect it before its to late. I thinks his sculptures look really cool and the message behind them is important.
My favourite photo of his is Magic Land Art by Andy Goldsworthy I like this photo because of how interesting the sculpture he made looks I like how the colour matches the leaf's on the ground and slowly fades into the red and orange. And I like how it looks like a portal to another dimension. What I will take from this is that I can incorporate sculpture's into my photography and also that my photos can be used to spread awareness about the value of nature.

My USP will be how its is presented I am going to present it in the form of a photobook. My target audience is 12 and over which makes my product unique as I am presenting in a more traditional form (print) of media to a younger audience which is more accustomed to digital media forms. Also its unique because the meaning behind it is the escape from urban environments into more rural areas.
Colour theory is the study of how colours work together and how they effect our perceptions of a piece of media.
For example for most of my landscape photography I will aim to have lots of green with small hints of brown and blue this reflects the vibrant positivity of nature but also the cooled more toned down and damp areas of a landscape. I aim to get more of the vibrant greens in my photos as I want to represent these landscapes in a positive light as the purpose of my project is to show how nature is a escape from the dull boring urban lifestyles most people live and how its value should be preserved and looked after by the general population. However using the more toned down colours like dark blue and brown could also reflect that nature is not fully positive as it can be dangerous and cause deaths. Showing that although it can be a nice escape for a while it is not somewhere most people would want live for an extended period of time.
Although blue could represent tediousness and sadness lighter shades of blue can also represent peace and tranquillity so elements such as the sky and lakes on a bright day would contribute towards the positive view of nature. I will capture a variety of images but I would like the main photos I use to be took on bright days to create a positive atmosphere for the photography.
Because of my colour scheme I'm sticking to I will have choose to take photos in more forested mountain areas. This means I will most likely not take photos in water areas such as lakes or the sea. And I will not take photos in autumn times.

Composition is the study of how to order and organise elements in a project it can be applied in all types of media for example: writing(story structure, paragraphing), photography and filming (golden ratio, rule of thirds etc), animation(use of layers, storyboarding).
Angles commonly used in landscape photography are wide angle shots, birds eye view or high camera angles. For my project I am mainly going to use wide shots to capture landscape shots as well of low angles of mountains and other scenery that is taller than me. I will probably not have access to birds eye view shots apart from the shots I take at the top of mountains.
I will also take into consideration different photography techniques like rule of thirds, golden ratio, contrast and leading lines. I will use this to draw focus to a subject or represent scale. For example I could use rule of thirds in a wide shot to represent the scale of each third of the picture, contrast be used when I take photos in different weathers. Leading lines can be used when photographing elements of nature like trees and other subjects. Golden ratio would be used when photographing picture of mountains to draw focus to the peak. I could also use low angles to draw attention to the foreground of a photo such as rocks or flowers and create a sense of depth and distance in the image.

New emerging photography innovations include 3D photography which aims to create a sense of depth in images. This method gives a third dimension to 2D photographs. To create a 3D photograph two photos are merged of the same subject from different angles. Drones which allow people to capture birds eye view images and wide shots very effectively. This is done by putting a camera on a drone. However it can sometimes have a negative impact as it disrupts peoples privacy and you need permission to fly it in certain areas. Artificial intelligence effects the way people edit photographs as it makes it easier to edit with the use of filters etc. One innovation I will take into consideration is sustainability in photography although I can only use cameras and equipment provided to me by the college I will try to make sure every other part of production is as sustainable as possible. Also my photography is mainly capturing landscape environment's so it could also spread awareness about the beauty of nature and how it should be protected. I might even take inspiration from Andy Goldsworthy and create sculptures in environments.

I am using a monitor keyboard and computer and mouse. For the photography I'm using a 800D Camera. The impact of using a computer is that I can only do my work in college because the laptops at college normally only last for a week, so I just don't use mine. There is no budgetary problems with my project as I don't need expensive special effects or actors as I will mainly be taking pictures of nature. As for the camera I will borrow it from the college so I will not need to pay for one. I plan to photograph in different weathers so if it the only thing I need to look out for is rain as it might damage the equipment. I will need to remember to return the equipment when I my slot is up. I also don't have studio lights or green screen but this is fine as I will mainly focus on photographing large landscapes so studio lighting would not be effective, and a green screen will not be needed as I am going to different locations and don't need to edit a subject into another location.
For the Historical Research side, I decided to look at early adaptations of escape as a theme in photography. An early example of escape in photography is war photography this is because it depicts scenes of civilians escaping the chaos of war and an escape from the norm as it showed people how horrible war-torn areas were.
However, it doesn't need to literally depict someone escaping to link to the escape theme it could also be someone's mental escape or something that is out of the ordinary. For example, during pandemic times people wanted to escape their houses so any photo took of day-to-day life linked to that theme of escape. Also, day to day photography took can reflect the life waiting for those who escape from the war.
For contemporary research I decided to look and popular photographs from the last ten years and picked one that linked to the idea of nature photography and had a loose link to the theme of escape. I settled on the photo on the bottom of the seagull in the oil this links to my idea of representing awareness of preserving nature and what human interference does to nature also the seagull is trying to escape the oil, so it links the theme.

The 25 Photos That Defined the Modern Age - The New York Times
My initial idea for my project is photography of natural environments I am doing this because I have an interest in photography and nature can be an escape for many people. This may help me improve my skills in this sector of media. I am going to present it in the form of a photobook. The purpose of this is to represent that nature is a positive escape for people living normal urban lifestyles and to show that these environments should be protected and not destroyed. This links to project theme and has the purpose of spreading awareness.
This meets the requirement of the brief because it is a project that links to escape and I am going to pick my own target audience. My target audience is 12+.
At least 10 final product pictures with written explanation's of how they link to the idea of escaping urban environments.
Examples of prototype photos and for the final photos to be presented in the form of a photobook.
Effects and editing applied to photos for example increasing saturation and removing elements of the photo not originally intended.
Videos of any kind or edits such changing colour of the photo completely.
This is the mind map I used when deciding on what my idea would be. I have presented some options for each part of media including: Product Design, Video, Photography, Writing, Animation and Sound. I eventually decided on environmental photography as it was something I wanted to do.
These are some of the locations I will consider doing my photography the ones I'm most likely to go to Roseberry topping and Middlesbrough golf centre as they are the closest to me.
If I cannot capture more photos in time for when the deadline comes then I will present the earlier photos I have already took. If I cannot get a photobook in time I will present the photos on my blog with explanations. Then before the deadline for resubmission comes, I will take some more. My thought behind this is the 1 month given for resubmission should be enough to go to some of the other locations I scouted but didn't have time to go to.
When I booked out my camera, I booked the 800D bundle which included all these as well as a charger I also use the pc to export the photo over to the computer so they can be put on my blog. I think it included a SD card with 32GB, but I couldn't find it on the website, so I had to include the 16GB one in the screenshot. I also used the college computers to complete work on my blog.
Copyright is a type of intellectual property that protects the creators of original works from plagiarism and unwanted use of their works. Another type of copyright is trademark which only applies to logos, symbol and phrases. There will be no copyright issues with my project because the landscapes I will be photographing will be not be owned by any company or person therefore I will have permission to photograph there the idea of landscape photography does is not copyrighted and no trademark brands will be included in the photographs I will take.
Health and safety rules in production are in reference to rules and practices I will implement in the production of my product to ensure no one is harmed in the process of making it or by the impact it has on society. To ensure I am safe during the filming I will stay weary of where my footing is because in outdoors landscape's I might hurt myself due to bumps in terrain. I will also make sure that no one who hasn't consented to be photographed ends up in a photo on my project this is to protect their privacy. My photos shouldn't offend any cultures as the meaning behind them (protecting the environment) is condoned by most cultures and I'm pretty sure most cultures don't have a problem with it.
Legislation means law and refers to laws that need to be considered when producing my product for example: Laws excluding filming in certain areas, laws that protect people’s privacy, laws that protect privately owned land. I will ensure that I take photos in areas where the public are allowed or if I want to film in private areas, I will ensure I get permission from the owners of the land or areas. I will make sure strangers faces are not captured in my photography.
I have already explained what I will avoid doing to protect the safety of myself , the public or private land owners but here I will list legislations that I will follow:
Protection from Harassment Act, 1997
Copyright, Designs and Patents Act,1988
Conservation (Natural Habitats, etc) Regulations,1994
Human Rights Act, 1998
With these three photos I experimented with different amounts of focus this was so that in the first image attention would be drawn to what is outside but as it progresses the focus is more on the inside. A took a few of each focus amount but these of the three I choose to show the progression I doubt I will use these in my final project, but this shows the different focus amounts I experimented with.
With these to I wanted to capture these trees with the bars of the balcony fence as I though it would work nicely with the escape theme as it looks like the trees are trapped behind the bars. I do not like how the first one turned out but at the point I was just setting up the camera and doing test shots. However I do like how the second one turned out and might use it in my final project. I will probably edit the car out of it for the final photo.
With these photos I experimented with different amounts of light in the room as well as different orientations for the photo to be took in. I like the first photo as it shows the picture within picture aspect of the wall decorations as well as the light shining through the windows which represents an escape from the room.
I had already planned a few filming locations such as Roseberry topping, Whorlton Castle, Bluebell Beck, Errington Woods, Middlesbrough Golf Centre, Hunt Cliff Nature Reserve, Foxes Woods and the Wainstones. However, my family already had a trip planned to Fife in Scotland and I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to capture some Landscape photos as Scotland is known for its highlands and large stretches of untouched land. However the area we were staying in was more of a residential area so getting to the highlands wasn't exactly possible because we were not on this trip for very long I decided to do the best with what I have so I decided to change the focus of my photography to reflected being trapped by taking photos of the natural environments from behind windows representing that the escape was on the other side of the windows. This showed how the escape was visible but out of reach.
I started by setting up the camera this took longer than expected as it was having trouble with the different levels of lighting around the villa, so it kept taking photos in flash. First, I had to take off the lens cap on the main camera body then take both lenses cap off the lens attachment then attach the lens to the camera body. Then put in the sim card and battery. I eventually got it sorted and was ready to start taking my pictures. Because I couldn't go to the highlands, and I was on time restraints as we were on holiday for that long I decided to change the idea of escape to reflect being on the inside of the place we were staying looking out like I said in the top paragraph, so I decided to take picture through windows or from the balcony. This ended up posing a creative challenge as I had to try and use the small space the best I could which meant a lot of experimentation and trial and error. I tried taking photos out of every window of the villa we were staying in then taking photos of aspects within the house that could link to the escape thing for example some decoration had some picture within picture visuals which could link to the escape theme. I decided that I would explain each images link to the theme and how the way I took them was planned and my thought process behind it.
On the right are a few test shots took while I was trying to set the camera up. These are just me visualising a few angles that I would take the photos from and I how I could convey the theme of escape. At this point in the project the cameras are fully booked, and I won’t be able to get them till just before submission date, so I have decided to follow my contingency plan and use some of the photos I was going to use for experimentation.
My mum suggested she be used as a model for some of the photos so some off the shots I took included her. Her idea was that because she had ADHD the nature was her escape from the restlessness in her mind. Although I liked this idea, I had already decided how my project was going to link to the theme and what its purpose was. I took I few photos with my mum as a model and a few of them turned out good so if I don't get any more photos, I will present one of them in my final photos. After I finished taking the photos I took the lens off the camera and reattached all the lens caps then the next time I was in college I download all the images from the SD card onto my computer and that is the point I am at now I am probably going to edit some of the photos to remove things I don't want included such as cars, people etc.
Some of the photos had foreground elements I didn't want such as the car in the photo on the left, so I edited them out for the final photos. Also to keep with the theme of conveying vibrant colours I decided to up the saturation on the image of the two trees to 60 although it makes it look fake it is on purpose to give the image a surreal feeling. For the in the window image, I increased the saturation to 30 I tested it with the high saturation of the tree image, and it just didn't look right so I decided to go for a more realistic look. I did the same with the rest of the photos making it just bright enough to be believe able but still look vibrant. At this point in product, I am going to go through a change in how my product is presented and changing the focus to ADHD and how nature is an escape for people.
Final Product Photos
Photo Iterations
I tried making an iteration of every image at a high saturation just to see how it looks although it makes the image look my vibrant it doesn't look right it makes the grass look radioactive which was not the effect I was trying to achieve. I also took variation of the circle window photo with the background blurred for the sake of variety the ones took with the outside blurred look worse than the ones I decided to go with as the ones where you can see out the window give the image more depth and is more cinematic as your eye is guided by the foreground to the environment on the outside. I took variations of the balcony photo with my mum one of closer angle and one from further away and more to the side. And variations of the ones on the balcony through the bars where the trees were not in centre focus, I did not end up using these as they didn’t look as nice as the final product.
The Feedback I have received from Linda is very helpful as I agree that the research and the final product result where disconnected this is because I ended up having to use photos I was going to use for experimentation as the final product. This is a result of my poor time management and lack of focus and productiveness. Although the feedback is helpful it is very unlikely I can achieve this in the time frame I have left due to the fact I would have to change all of my research and my project proposal to reflect the new direction I will take it this is my own fault though as I should have asked for feedback sooner so that I actually had time to make changes. I am disappointed in myself for neglecting work and not seeing the feedback sooner if I had seen it and used it earlier, I feel that I could have made something out of this project instead I have made it incoherent. I will try on resubmission to incorporate the ideas presented in Linda's feedback as it is a better idea for a project and saves me the time of booking out the cameras again and going out to get more photos.
I think I started very strong in this project as I was very focused and enjoyed the work, I even stuck to my Gantt chart schedule. I think I did good on the cinematography and angles of my photos, and I like some of the photos I took.
But halfway through the project I became unfocused and unproductive I don't know why I think it was I didn't really have a cohesive vison or purpose for my project, and I kept putting off booking out the cameras. I should have started taking photos earlier, so I had a larger variety to pick from. I should have scouted locations earlier, so I knew where I was going. I also should have prioritized sorting out the photobook earlier as that was the USP of my product and by the point of writing this I don't have enough time to order it so I will not be able to include it. I think I may end up changing the product entirely on resubmission as it wasn't really a solid idea to begin with.
My target audience is 12+ and I have stuck to that target audience there is no disturbing or offensive imagery in this project.
I think my product has met the briefs requirements I have submitted the product on time I have chosen the target audience and created the product.
The skills I have learnt from this are photography and camera skills like learning how to set up the camera learning to adjust focus changing f-stop to account for different light levels in different rooms.
