This is a image of my Gantt chart it shows the time and order I will be doing each task during the production of my project from 15/11/2023 to 15/12/2023. In green is the things I have done and in yellow is the things I am in the process of doing they separated into 5 different sections: set up, research, pre-production, Production, Post. This helps document when I completed each part of my project and which parts I need to do. It helps me keep track of what I've finished and what I've still got left to do.
In this image I have finished researching existing websites which I changed to a bit through the project it hasn't been updated on this Gantt chart I also created a mind map researched different gods, target audience and technical research.
I plan to have done all of the research and pre production done by the 30th and to start production by the 1st.
If I do not achieve this goal I will note it on this portfolio and on the next stage of my Gantt chart.
This is when I switched my project to a website so I had to change a lot of my portfolio so that it linked more to researching a website.
In this time I managed to finish innovation research, project proposal and planning. I did not reach my target of getting pre production done by the 30th this is due to switching ideas for my project.
I will try to get this done by next week however I will be harder because all the research will have to be restarted due to the project switch.
This is my Gantt chart on the day of the project I have finished all of the parts of production although I finished them much later than displayed on the Gantt chart I finished most of production and post production on the day of the project.
I have finished contingency plan, experimentation, produced the product and published it. I am halfway through doing the production log and feedback and reflection.
I am basically done with this project although I veered of the Gantt chart I still feel it helped me stay on track during early production.
Popular websites that exist similar to mine are BBC bitesize which is a revision website used by students in the UK. It contains information about many different topics. Since my website is only focusing on gods. It will only contain a small amount of information points about gods in different regions such as Egyptian gods and Greek gods as well as different types of gods such as primordial gods, gods of death, celestial gods etc. There is also greekgodsandgodesses.net and Theio Greek Mythology.
This influences my project as it shows me what needs to be in my website and how interactable it should be. Also it helps decide the tone of my website if I want a Wikipedia type of website I don't need many colours all I need is text and images. If I am going for a BBC bitesize type of website I can use a variety of colours and I need to include video links and a search bar. I am also going to take the simple colours and shades from greekgodsandgoddess.net as I like how simple and easy to use that website was.
This is the mind map for my ideas research etc. It contains my ideas for what the project could be names of existing websites similar to mine, research needed and feature intended to be included.
I have used a html software brackets to code my website. I have also used a monitor mouse and keyboard to do this. I used internet explorer to find the images information and to help remember how to code certain things. I found the software we used(brackets) alright to use although I did not understand it at first once I learnt how to use it I found it easy to use.
The target audience for this website will be students aiming to revise/ learn about different types of gods and the history of gods. Because of this I will try to include information in short bursts so it easier for revision purposes it will also include short videos I will find on YouTube this is to make it easier to revise as people can skip to the point of the video with the information that you need also I will include a Wikipedia looking page in the read more and other pages. The target audience could also be religious people or people into that genre of things. It could also target people studying history as a lot of history has to do with gods.
I need to create a folder to store all the images and other pages that i will use for this website so that I can open them all from one place. I also need to plan the layout using the template Cher gave me I will plan out what will be interactable what the different pages will look like etc. I also need to have a few videos in mind to include in my website.
I will Experiment with different website layouts, colours and styles until I decide what I want my website to look like.
I know a lot about gods from religious studies
There are many gods products out there so there is lots of inspiration.
I have never done anything like this before
I am new to a lot of the skills I am learning
Learn new skills
To make something new
Could fail to complete
Getting distracted / spending to much time on one thing
My website will be be presented in the form of a online encyclopaedia which is set of books/notes stored online about a certain topic. Some of the most visited on the market are wikipedia.org, quora.com, deepl.com, sciencedirect.com and reverso.net. What makes Wikipedia so successful is its simple format that allows for easy access to information however one of its downside is that people anyone can put something so misinformation can be spread I will take this in to consideration when thinking about my project.
Quora is successful because it is set up more like a social media platform where people can reply and respond also its more question based so instead of just reading out some text and not getting a full grasp on the topic you can have a conversation with someone and get a better understanding on the topic. However one downside with Quora is that it requires an account to use whereas Wikipedia is more convenient for someone who cannot be bothered to set up an account and just needs an answer quickly. Deepl is a translator website it is very useful in its application but it is not the type of websites I'm trying to create.
My project will not require you to make an account this is to take the convenience factor from Wikipedia.
The unique selling point will be its simplicity compared to websites like Wikipedia it will contain short bits of information so that it more easily digestible but it will also carry over the simplicity of websites like greekgodsandgoddess.net. Trying to make a unique website is hard without compromising functionality you need it to be functional without meaning designs cannot be to out there as to not confuse whoever is using it.
Colour theory is how colours mix and blend creating new colours darker shades of colours. Also involves tone, tint, hue etc. It also relates to what colours represent which emotions. For example green could mean happy as well as yellow happy or deceit. Red can mean angry or romantic. Orange happiness, energy. For my website I can use different colours to convey which buttons are interactable or I can use a lack of colour to convey the serious informational tone of the website I can use shades like white and black. If I was doing specific gods characters like Apollo I can use blue and yellow to represent the character.
There are many ways an informational website can be set out the first way is in a Wikipedia type format with a search bar that then takes you to a full page on the word or phrase that you search. Or if you have a more specific focus with your website you can have a few tabs on the starting page covering broader areas of the topic your website is about for example on my website I could have large tabs about Greek gods, Egyptian gods etc. And then the search bar could be used to look up specific gods and it would take you to their part in one of the tabs. So each tab would contain a paragraph or two about the type of gods and their history and the rest of the writing would be about each god from those category's. Examples can be seen on the left. For the text alignment i will stick with left aligned text as it is easier to read.
Because of technical constraints create my own revision videos for the websites also I cannot include complex graphics and effects on my website. Other than that there are not many technical constraints the only other problem is I cannot do my work at home as the program we use brackets cannot be installed on the school laptops. I think I could improve on the amount of content in the website. I could also improve of the features for example (if I had time) I could of added a search bar or a bar along the top that took you to different websites.
An old adaptation of gods would be the early stories of gods in things like the bible and other stories from around that time a new adaptation of god would be Hercules. The theme of gods doesn't have to specifically mean gods it could be like someone who is a god at something they do. Like you would someone is a god at something or in a certain industry. So this means I could make something about people who are good at what they do instead of something about gods. The history of gods related websites. An example of a new product similar to mine would be greekgodsandgoddesses.net or Theio Greek Mythology I couldn't find any old examples of gods websites if I had to think of one it would probably be a website for like a religion.
Research is good to help with the creation of the project. Research is good to see what else is in the market and see if your product will become popular or reach its target audience. My target audience for this website is students around the age of 14-16 this is because this is around the age of students studying things like history and this website is a informational/revision website about the history of gods and what different god types it will include two large segments about god regions such as Greek gods and Egyptian gods these will include read more buttons for more information. Then it will also have god types such as primordial, celestial etc. They will be in the forms of interactable buttons when you click on them it will take you to a separate page with information about the types of gods what they mean and what they do. I can use research to gather information about gods for my websites.
I am going to choose between Egyptian gods and Greek gods. Egyptian gods include Horus, Isis, Thoth, set, Osiris etc. Greek gods include Athena, Artemis, Apollo, Ares, Hermes etc. For Greek gods they come from Greek myths which come from stories told in the Minoan civilisation was around from 3000 to 1110 BCE. As for Egyptian gods they originated from the Early Dynastic Period 3100-2686. They come from prehistoric religious beliefs. The first Greek god was chaos seen as a gap between heaven and hell. The first Egyptian god was Atum who is a primordial. Most gods come from rumours or myths started 1000 years ago. I will have to choose between Greek and Egyptian gods. There are also different types of gods including primordial, celestial, death, cyclical and liminal deities etc. Primordial gods are the first generation of gods and are the oldest. Celestial gods are deities associated with a planet, moon or star(or any other kind of celestial object). This can be used to full the informational sections in my websites.
These questions were really just to get ideas on the different types of gods I could include in my project. The reason I didn't include more project related questions is because at this point I didn't really have an idea of what I was going to do for my project.
For these question I was trying to get votes on what idea I should do for my project I came up with the idea of a gods fighting game. The reason I didn't do this is because I didn't have the skills to do this.
My project will be a informational websites about gods from different regions and the different types of gods that exist. It will include two large information sections one about Greek gods and one about Egyptian gods it may also include small information videos that I will use from YouTube. It will also contain smaller sections about different types of gods for example primordial and these sections will have colour schemes that fit their theme.
My website must include large amounts of information text that applies to the Greek and Egyptian gods and types of gods in general. It should also include images interactable buttons that take to see more information.
All the things it already has plus video links, links to other websites a search bar and a bar that takes you between the pages.
More information but I have ran out of time to do that.
A search bar and links to different videos and websites.
I am planning to use a more serious and professional colour scheme for the main page but when you click on the certain gods. The colour schemes for the different sections of my website can be seen to the left. I also created a mood board including different types of websites and website layouts. I have also created a search bar and a potential informational section. They can be seen below. Also I created a sketch of the potential layout which can be seen on the left.
Copyright could prevent me from using certain images or material. There will be no copyrighted material in my website all images will be royalty free and no permission will be needed.
Legislation refers to laws which technically includes copyright but other examples of legislation could be laws set by parliament. My website will breach any legislation or laws.
Health and safety refers to the precautions took to make sure that my production does not risk the health or the lives of anyone else in this way my website does not break any health and safety rules as it is entirely online so no physical work is needed.
If I cannot get videos or images in I will try to include lots of information and other features such as a search bar and more seamless buttons only if i have enough time to.
For the first button design I went with less bold design because I couldn't do the bold design. Then I used a more bold text and I think it looks better I did this because I was figuring out how to use the brackets software. I haven't got many more screenshots of experimentation as i am finishing this section after I have finished my project but to in the iteration segment of my blog in production it shows an early design of one but of project and the finished version afterwards.
Here are some possible website layouts that could be used for my project. The one on the right is a basic template for a website that looks like it would be used on a news website. The other two look like variations of the first but with more complex designs for example the second one has fully green outlines around orange boxes.
First using Chers template I created these to large text boxes about Greek and Egyptian gods which are the gods regions I chose to research for this project. Up to this point I didn't know much about how to code certain things so I was just using the template and my research and images from google. For the information I used google and reworded the things I found on google. While I was doing this I was trying to figure out how to add buttons that take you to different pages that I also made on html. This I might end up using in the form of buttons to read more as I want the main page of the website to look clean and not be full of information. As for the background colour I will probably end up changing it as I think it looks quite bland at the moment but we will see. But the buttons will allow me to add more information so i will probably end up adding the.
The two images on the left are the read more buttons which redirect you to a page like the one below. The image below is the read more page for the Egyptian. The other read more button was for the Greek gods segment. On these two pages I had images and large bits of information. At the moment the only way to get back to the home screen is by using the arrow to go back to the last page but I intend to add a back button to each of the pages as well as some other pages.
I also added the buttons seen on the top left they originally were not interactable but I made them interactable and made them go to different webpages which are displayed on the left side. The two displayed on the left side are the ones for primordial gods and celestial gods. For primordial gods I started with a basic description of what a primordial gods is and then a few example with their own information the two I chose where Tartarus and Gaia. I did the same for celestial gods and chose the gods Apollo and Helios. I got my information from google as well as the images and I changed the background colour on these to suit their themes better. I briefly changed the background colour of the main page to a light grey but I decided to change it back as it looked worse. I am still working on adding a back button. Overall I think these pages look alright I could have definitely made them more complex but I think for their function they are perfectly fine.
I added the back buttons at the bottom of each page so that once you are done taking notes as this is intended as a revision site you can go back to the home page and click on something else.
I found it hard to get these to function correctly as they kept not working for some reason but I eventually found out how to do it.
One thing I could've improved was adding more buttons to quickly jump to other pages.
In my first iteration there was no back button on any of the pages so you had to click the arrow button there was also no background colour which I later improved. This first iteration was just me getting the layout sorted for my website and typing all the information needed for a informational site. Because of this colour is very simplistic as I was still learning the software at this time.
On this version of the website I added more images and text and I also added a back button on to all the pages I also changed the background to suit each pages theme.
For the final iteration I went with a more simple approach due to theme but also due to time constraint as I had switched project.
I think the feedback has been mostly positive I know that I need to do more in terms of detail on my portfolio and my project but the reason for the lack of content is because I switched my project idea four times. Although I need to add more I am happy with my work. Things I would of liked to get done are a search bar that or bar with different sections on that takes you to different pages. The reason I didn't get these done is due to lack of knowledge on how to do things like add a bar at the top and also due to time constraints because of the fact I struggled to decide on an idea for my.
When I finished my project I doubled checked it then I corrected any errors like making sure that every link worked and making sure everything was spelt correctly. I also worked on feedback that was given to me such as linking back to the project more and adding more detail and flow to my work. I did this by adding two or three sentences on to existing sections that link back to the project for example for colour theory I have put "If I was doing specific gods characters like Apollo I can use blue and yellow to represent the character".
I now know that I need to add a lot more detail and try and make the research flow better. Also I need to link my research to my final product which I have already started doing. I have also submitted my final website since then. I will try to change some of my work to link back more to the final product in the time I have left. And I will try to organise my work into sections like pre-production, production etc.
In post production I tested to make sure the colours were suitable for colour-blind people which they where. I made sure I used contrasting background colours to my text and avoided using clashing colours like red and blue that make it hard to read for colour-blind people because it blends together. I also changed how the websites buttons worked and added different colours to the different parts of the website.
I think what I did well while making this project was I quickly I produced the work that I needed to do as I switched projects like 3 time by the time I had decided on the project that I was doing I only had 2 weeks left so I happy with the work amount I produced in that time. I'm also happy with the amount of research I got done. I'm also happy that I learned how to use the brackets software.
I could've improved on my productivity during the project as I often got distracted and did nothing for periods of time. I could've also improved the quality of my research as I did do a lot of research but not all of it was useful and I did a lot I didn't need to do and not a lot of what I needed to do this is because I didn't use the planner as much as I should have.
The initial target audience for my product was religious people or people studying religious study's or history. I think my product would connect with people studying in fields like history or religious study's. But I don't think it would connect with religious people. This is because it contains lots of information about gods but more gods related to the Greek and Egyptian eras so religious people would be more interested in more modern gods however it would be very helpful to a history student because it talks about gods from ancient history. So although it does not connect with some of my initial target audience I think it is close enough to what I was envisioning.
My product meets the requirements of the brief as it was a media product related to the theme of gods in the form of a website. I chose my own target audience for the brief. However where my project did not meet the brief was its completion date.
The skills I have gained is being able to use brackets I learned this by picking it to do as my project. I learned parts of brackets by googling how to do the things I wanted to and then using the code to do it. the skills I need to develop are skills in photography, animation, video editing etc.
