Half-Ogres are a unique and rare hybrid race, often born from the union of a Human mother and an Ogre father, typically resulting from violent circumstances. It is exceedingly uncommon for Half-Ogres to be the result of a consensual relationship. Tragically, their human mothers often do not survive childbirth due to the sheer size of their offspring, leaving the Half-Ogres without a maternal benefactor. This, coupled with their brutish appearance, makes it difficult for them to fit into any particular society.
Physical Description:
1. Size and Build: Half-Ogres are significantly larger than humans, standing between 6.25 to just over 8 feet tall, and they can weigh anywhere from 320 to 700 pounds. Their size is inherited from their Ogre parentage, making them imposing figures.
2. Appearance: Half-Ogres often resemble brutish humans but inherit some traits from their Ogre lineage. Their skin and hair tones tend to reflect those of their Ogre parent, with darker shades like yellowish-brown or olive being the most common. These traits make them easily distinguishable from full-blooded humans.
3. Strength: They possess considerable physical strength, which is one of the defining characteristics of their heritage.
Interpersonal Aspects:
1. Societal Struggles: Half-Ogres find it challenging to fit into any society. In Ogre societies, they are considered weak and puny, with only a rare few managing to survive among Ogre tribes. Those who do survive often rely on their intellect rather than brute force to gain power.
2. Human Society: In human societies, Half-Ogres are often viewed as dull-witted due to their physical appearance and are typically relegated to roles as muscle or laborers. They might face discrimination and prejudice, making it difficult to form meaningful connections with others.
3. Other Races: Other races, such as Dwarves, Gnomes, and Halflings, tend to avoid interaction with Half-Ogres, considering them as freaks of nature or even potential threats due to their size and strength.
Beliefs and Values:
1. Love for Combat: Half-Ogres have a natural affinity for combat and physical contests. They relish a good fight, often seeking out opportunities for battles or physical challenges. This love for combat is a characteristic they share with their Ogre heritage.
2. Feasting and Drinking: They enjoy hearty feasts and revelry, and they have a particular fondness for drinking. Social gatherings, with plenty of food and drink, hold a significant place in their culture.
3. Nomadic Existence: With no lands of their own, Half-Ogres often reside in human, orc, or ogre societies, leading a somewhat nomadic existence as they struggle to find their place in the world.
In summary, Half-Ogres are a unique and misunderstood race, born from challenging circumstances and often facing discrimination and hardship in their lives. While they may be physically imposing, their path to acceptance in society is often a difficult one, and they rely on their intellectual abilities to navigate a world that frequently regards them as outsiders.
Half-Ogres do not possess the intellect to learn Arcane Magic, they are also not as comely or lucky as humans. They must consume +25% more food and water to maintain their bulk and pay +25% more for clothing and armor. They are distrusted, especially by the smaller races, and have a difficult time dealing with them. Their bulk and brawn make up for these disadvantages. Half-Ogres start out with +5 hit points, +1 to Physical Resistance rolls, and a boost to both Strength and Constitution stats. Further, they gain a +2 to their strength stat and a bonus +1 to hit with two-handed weapons. This makes them natural fighters who are feared on the battlefield. Half-Ogres that make it to adulthood can expect to live to about 135 years. Those who are taller than 7’6” inches in height can use two-handed weapons in a single hand without suffering penalties or a reduction in damage. Half-Ogres can cover more distance on the battlefield, with their longer strides often slashing through enemies along the way.
Half-Ogres breed true with either human or ogrish stock and can also produce offspring with other Half-Ogres. Half-Ogres can also reproduce effectively with Half-Orcs and Orcs, but not Half-Elves or any other player character race. Copulation with these races usually results in stillbirths or a lack of conception.
