Implementaion Example: Two-Loop Fire Hydrant Pipe Network Pressure Drop Analysis
Refer to the 2-loop fire hydrant pipe network as shown, it consists of Loop A and Loop B.
Determine the pipe pressure drop in the 2-loop ring main pipe network when 2 fire hydrant outlets are opened as indicated. Ignore pipe fitting and minor losses.
Given data:
Each fire hydrant outlet flowrate : 2280 LPM.
Pipe material & roughness: Ductile Iron cement lined, roughness 0.03mm
Water density & viscosity: Density 1000 kg/m3, Dynamic viscosity 1.306 cP
Solutions with ePF Loop . . . flow and pressure drop (head loss) calculations
The 2-loop pipe network model in ePF Loop program is as shown. It consists of Section 1 pipes (source), Section 2 pipes, Section 3 pipes and Section 4 pipes (common).
Quick start
(1) Start input pipes sequentially in Section 1 in clockwise direction, starting from the single-input supply source point (Qin).
(2) Input pipes sequentially in Section 2 and 3 in clockwise direction accordingly.
(3) In Section 4 (common pipe), input pipes sequentially in clockwise direction as in Loop A.
(4) Enter discharge flowrate (Qo) at each pipe if there is a discharge flow. Enter zero (0) if there is no discharge.
(5) Select density and material.
(6) Right click on input textbox (Qout, D, L, K) for selections.
