For a given inflow (Qi), the duty volume (or effective capacity or active volume) is very much dependent on pumping flowrate and pump's cycle time.
This app gives the duty volume (V) needed in different pumping flowrate (Qp) scenarios. The calculation includes pump's cycle time (Tc), on-time (t1) and off-time (t2). When choosing the required duty volume and pump flowrate, recommended motor starts/stops (N) and minimum pump off-time (resting) should be considered.
When Qp/Qi = 2 , the minimum cycle time and minimum volume required for a single pump operation per volume capacity occur. That is to say, in a cycle time, pump on-time and pump off-time are equal. Therefore, for minimum volume sizing criteria, Qp = 2 x Qi.
The chart plots, which serve as illustrations, demonstrate the relationship between Qp/Qi, t1, t2, and V.
