Nathan (15) is given back elements from the case, including missing notes and materials from his old desk at [Digitek].
11.2080 | [Data Security] becomes the prime network and components provider. They are sponsors for the elected party during the presidential elections.
12.2080 | [Data Security] disposes network generators all over the country to assure “a maximal service”.
2081 | ExaGone
03.2081 | Nathan (16) finishes project [JAKE].
09.2081 | Nathan meets [CHRIS] (16) in high school and introduced him to Shawn. The trio becomes close and they grow rebellious against [Data Security], vandalizing network generators.
[MATTHIES] (39) reprimands them for good measures and then admits to being part of the old group System. He becomes their official hacking mentor and teaches them all of the activism out and abouts.

11.2083 | Exagone is starting to take over in the underworld. Chris (18), Shawn (17) and Matthies (41) decide to appoint Nathan as their leader. He accepts at the ripe age of 18 and organizes a network of underworld groups against [Data Security].
11.2083 | Nathan meets [AHMED] (24), a specialist in stolen military equipment. This relation between the two groups will be a key for Drift’s prototype and JAKE’s further versions. They start to discuss the potential of providing Nathan with a Drift implant.
2084 | OPSY
01.2084 | Andrew and Phoebe, aged 18, evolve in their training.
- Previously growing together in the labs, the two are now kept separated at all time.
- Phoebe: not doing too great, growing paranoiac without her brother’s protection over her ;
- Andrew: becomes colder and obedient, accepts the situation, despite worrying for Phoebe. Focus even more on military tasks.
ANDREW: Attributed recon missions, gets a Drift implant at the base of his skull.
- Helped in the Drift by a DS issued AI [TANAKA], much less polished than JAKE, seems incomplete but deemed good enough ;
- Quickly getting to the top of the chain, recruited by the [OPSY Squad] ;
- Being the only “proto” of the squad, Andrew develops a superiority complex, partly due to being more efficient physically naturally.
- He is recommended by his commander and assigned regularly as personal security for [MARCO ANATIA KALEO].
PHOEBE: Used as test subject for Pharmatek experiments and marketing showcases.
- Under tranquilizers and manipulated by lab managers into shady deals all in order to gather funds for Pharmatek’s side projects;
- They plan for her to be come part of the future Drifts, making her the main server, which she is yet unaware of.
20.09.2084 | The Phoebe accident
During a particularly violent evening, Phoebe fights back with the same strength as her brother and is immediately sent back to the labs, away from prying eyes.
Andrew isn’t aware of that until he crosses path with her in the corridors while she escaped, again, and she begs him to protect her.
The situation is too much for Andrew who freezes on the spot and is unable to process that it is real, he remains silent and tries to bargain with Phoebe that it’s all in her head.
Phoebe calls him out for being blinded by his devotion to the enterprise and is brought back to her room by the security, who tries to reassure Andrew that it was a misunderstanding.
Phoebe looks one last time at Andrew who only then realizes how honest and desperate she was, while he is escorted back to his manager’s office.
Andrew starts investigating in the Drift while still in denial.
27.10.2084 | Nathan moves into his flat in [DISTRICT11], [45B 3467 MegaPlex].
He often hangs out with [SHAWN] who lives a few floors above his.
Chris offers him a brand new bike, [WW Power3 (Gen1°)], that Sheryl specially customized for his birthday.
07.12.2084 | Nathan’s [Drift] is functional. He can now access Data Security’s informations from their hideout.
However, his port doesn’t grant him administrator rights and he can only observe the data. Shawn is working with him to exploit a breach and access the archives.
The implant is hidden at the base of his skull, underneath his hair.

09.2085 | Nathan enters university in DISTRICT06 and meets JANE (20) in the tech program. They sympathise over gadgets and their alignement with the government.
10.2085 | Data Security intervenes in their class to promote job offers in their headquarters. Against JAKE’s warnings, Nathan plans to work undercover in hopes to learn more about his father’s work. MATTHIES (43) is alarmed. He manages to warn the guys that he has been staked out and will be inactive and unable to protect them.

27.10.2085 | During his birthday at the Machina , Nathan (20) is pulled apart by “Marco’s friend” to propose a meeting with the CEO. JAKE is revolted and angry that Nathan ignores all his warnings.
12.11.2085 | Data Security HQ
NATHAN goes to the Data Security headquarters in DISTRICT03 without JAKE, whom he left in his sister’s care. He meets MARCO ANATIA KALEO in his office, Andrew watching in the corner of the room. As Nathan starts bullshitting, Marco stops him and reveals he was involved in his father’s murder, his goal to get his hands on JAKE. He is aware of Exagone’s activities and Nathan’s role as the growing underworld leader and considers him an equal.
Marco is successful in psychologically manipulating Nathan, exploiting his psychological exam, showing that he knew all along about their plans and activism. He threatens to arm SHERYL , his sister, which is Nathan’s weak point. Nathan is left powerless with no way of saving these proofs. ANDREW knocks him out.
13.11.2085 | Nathan wakes up in flat the next morning, with a note on his nightstand: “My proposal still holds. JAKE, and I will close my eyes on your little organisation. Think about your dear sister…” Andrew noticed his Drift implant when he put him into bed but did not notify his superiors about it.*
*Andrew’s encounter with his sister made him change his ground. He is now working for himself and reinforces his idea of superiority over his patrons. He is starting to think about a plan to negotiate their escape.
Changes in motivations for Nathan and Andrew:
Nathan: quest for answers is resolved, now feeding on a desire for vengeance.
Andrew: life of servitude is troubled by doubt, his sister’s struggle aspire him to fight for themselves (CF sep. 2084).
Following his encounter, Nathan’s emotions and thoughts are all over the place. He doubles on his energy and fury against DS, becoming more reckless and closed up. His actions put Exa_Gone in the eye of the storm and they are classified as cyber-terrorists by the National Security. This makes their activism more dangerous but also rallies the different underground groups together, forming a new alliance against a common enemy.
Andrew is called for a security summit. The OPSY Squad is attributed the mission to apprehend all Exagone core members and satellite groups. Andrew is specifically attributed the recovery of JAKE, “a rogue AI they developed by stealing our intel” that “could endanger everyone if not apprehended”. Andrew knows JAKE’s origins to be false, due to his previous presence in the encounter between Marco and Nathan, but holds back from commenting.
He plans secretly to steal JAKE and use him as leverage in negotiation for his sister’s safety.
12.2085 | Nathan and Andrew use the Drift as a sanctuary from the outside world.
The first Andrew noticed Nathan was in the Drift, he was crying from frustration after hours of digging for informations on his father’s work. He approached and held his hands up as a sign of peace and sat down next to him, changing the subject by talking about the view of the “sky”. This forever marks the Drift as a truce place for both of them. They bond over the feeling of safety and cutting themselves from the world. Andrew admits it’s the first time he finally understood what it was to be a human, making Nathan realize he’s not a normal soldier.
They never really discussed much about their roles in this war, until Andrew, after a fight with one of his colleagues, asks him why he won’t just give up JAKE. Nathan sighs…
”I was wondering when you’d ask. I’m guessing you remember our first encounter so I’m not going into details about how he’s all I have left of my father and the actual… Jake. It’s just that, if I gave up now, it would like admitting that they can destroy whatever they wish as they will.
And… I can’t allow that. I promised JAKE I’d make this world a better place, and I can’t do it without him. Even worse against him.”
He then gives Andrew a specific piece of data about AI scans, telling him he wasn’t sure if he should tell him or not but that he had no rights to hold onto that from him. Andrew doesn’t understand at first, logs the data in and finds out they plan to scan his sister. When he comes back from the log, Nathan is gone. Andrew is furious that he held onto that from him and wants more answers.
They don’t meet for a long time after that.
Encounter in the Drift
20.12.2085 | During a data mine session, Andrew asks Tanaka if he remembers anything of his life before his scan.
”I don’t think so, no. I mean, even if I did, I doubt they’d let me if that was the case”
To which Andrew only answers with a hum before logging off.
2086 | The Drift collapses
01.2086 > 02.2086 | Nathan isolates himself a whole month in the Drift in attempt to break Datasecurity’s firewall. He barely comes back to reality, only when his friends force him out to eat and rest.
07.02.2086 | Nathan and JAKE exploit a backdoor left by Andrew and bypass the firewall.
Andrew is summoned to his superior’s office in emergency. He is demoted and put on hold until further notice. His access to higher Drift sections are cut off and his logs are registered and recorded, in hopes of catching Nathan that way. He is angry and feels betrayed and used by Nathan His previous change of view on Nathan is back to hostile and he decides to play along in DS’ plan.
12.02.2086 | Exagone releases the first batch of hidden DS reports to the media. News of victims’ names rings bells in the police and the public demands answers. Exagone’s public opinion starts to glorify them as the new truth-bringer and they no longer trust Data Security for their safety. Votes are demanded to separate DS from the government and police.
15.02.2086 | Andrew finally sees Nathan again in the Drift as he’s about to disconnect.
This small encounter exposes Nathan’s localisation who escapes immediately thanks to JAKE and Ahmed. Matthies works with Nathan in the new hideout on a Drift 1.01 update to become invisible by the security. He has to take more rejection medications to reduce the impact of neuronal use on his senses from his outdated port. Nathan becomes a ghost in the machine and witnesses Andrew’s spiral into madness as he cannot see or stop him. Nathan goes into a routine of updates and delivering batch after batch of informations to Ahmed for the media.
Jane and Chris visit regularly, Sheryl less often due to them fighting every time about his lack of self-care, and Shawn is more discreet, lying low but helping with the upgrades. Nathan’s health is getting worse with each session, abusing his stays in the Drift and wasting away.
03.03.2086 | DS reboots Drift’s internal server.
Tanaka warns Nathan as this will reset him too and accepts his near "death". He gathers all the information in his memory and gives it to Nathan which he copies and separates onto a fragmented disk, divided into sections that each member owns.
Nathan and Andrew see each other one last time in the Drift before the reboot (their implants will no longer be compatible with Drift 1.1) and Andrew is furious to learn that Nathan is planning to broadcast everything, knowing full well the chaos this will cause. He is also furious to see that Nathan plans to break any form of peace and security, threatening the balance of their nation by causing panic (believing this confirms what DS said when they classified Exagone as a disorder organization.)
Nathan disconnects without a word, disappointed in Andrew and himself over what he thought was a budding friendship and an awakening from Andy. He feels that all his efforts were in vain and that destroying DS will allow him to put an end to this propaganda.
05.03.2086 | Reset of the Drift Installation of the Drift 1.1 port on Andrew who is completely alone in this new version, the interface and the access limits stops him from tracking and reporting on their targets.
04.2086 | Nathan brings the entire team together to make a decision about Tanaka's disk. The opinions are mixed, but after consultation everyone agrees to publish its content. The methods diverge, some want to publish it themselves, others want to transmit it to the newspapers. They give themselves two weeks to think about it before deciding to hack the news channels and broadcast Nathan's announcement in fully revealed face.
05.2086 | Public opinion is changing completely, people are shocked and want explanations. The evidence is there, tons of documents are shared and discussions continue to bubble up around the famous cyber-terrorist to whom we owe all these revelations.
Chaos reigns in DS’ headquarters. Half the employees submit resignations that are refused for “lack of personnel”, meetings are taking place one after the other, and the other half of employees is in complete denial.
Andrew
Andrew worries about Phoebe and fears that Nathan’s plans may have endangered his sister even more. He feels used, ashamed of his mistakes and wants to make Nathan pay for the embarrassment he’s in.
He is called to his superior’s office who explains that his new mission consists of neutralizing all members of Exagone, at all cost, and to get a hold of JAKE if he wishes to be part of the UMF again. He has to execute the mission on his own, as he is no longer part of the OPSY Squad.
Phoebe
Phoebe is relieved to see that DS is crumbling. She is patient in her room, certain that her brother will come and save her from her golden prison after he sees reason. However, she is unaware that he is set on a personal vendetta against Nathan, still blinded by his mission.

27.10.2086 | It's been several months since Nathan and Andrew last saw each other. However, each one develops an obsession with each other.
Andrew manages to get into Nathan’s party at the Machina and they cross path as Nathan is completely drunk in the crowd. He kisses Andrew on a whim, clearly unaware that the man in front of him is the real thing. Clearly turned on, they exchange a few heated kisses before Nathan is pulled away by his sister’s calls, oblivious to the man Nathan was with. He rushes away and Andrew is too confused to follow and instead runs away, claiming he couldn’t get a hold of the man to his superior. This all makes Andrew all the more confused, which in turns makes him all the more frustrated.
Later that evening, Nathan looks for the man again in the crowd but can’t seem to find him. He goes back to his friends in disappointment, wanting to ask for the guy’s name.

DEC. 2086 | Rebellion and insurrections
12.2086 | Start of the rebellion Nathan is still on the run and barely shows up in person anymore. Andrew continues his pursue and misses him each time in the Drift, not having the necessary autorisations to take actions.
2087 | Obligatory car pursue scene Chris and Matthies find themselves in a car chase during the riots. They thankfully come out unharmed but recount the UMF is upgrading their material.

10.2087 | Several members of the UMF are tried in justice and the riot dies down. The public opinion requests that Exagone’s charges are relieved on account of them being “heroes”.
NOV. 2087 | Spine Implant
05.11.2087 [22:20] | Fight between Nathan and Andrew. Andrew cuts off his radio contacts and goes 1v1 against Nathan, whom he has a personal vendetta with. He breaks Nathan’s spine and leaves him on the roof, half hoping that he dies in the process to fulfill his mission, but the other half not finding it in himself to watch him give his last breath away.
05.11.2087 [23:10] | Nathan (22) is saved by Ahmed in time for him to undergo a save procedure. He agrees to install the exo-spine at that moment, which takes a few days of being out cold.
05.11.2087 [23:30] | As Andrew returns from his mission, he is called to a meeting where he is reprimanded for his inability to recover JAKE and his radio silence during the ordeal. He bargains that he neutralized Nathan to which the company responds that he was merely a pawn in their game. He realizes he had miscalculated DS’ plan all along and that he just killed his safest way out, ashamed that he was needlessly violent, just like what his sister reproaches to the UMF and Pharmatek.
Andrew is dismissed after the meeting and sent back to his headquarters.
As he lies down, recalling his earlier actions as blood dries on his hands, Andrew’s search for freedom gets the best of him and he claims that he feels unwell and requires to see his ectogenesis doctor. Reluctantly agreeing, he is escorted to the Labs, where he blows a fuse and destroy the ongoing protos using his sister’s and his blueprints. He grabs onto one of the guard’s weapon and makes use of his training to bail Phoebe out.
06.11.2087 [03:45] | While the two manage to drive away from the scene, Andrew asks Phoebe to take the wheel while he contacts someone, Jane, to get them to safety. Phoebe is put directly in the care of JAKE as they arrive, while Andrew is kept under Jane’s and then Chris’ surveillance.
JAKE, Jane and Chris discuss what to make of the twins. JAKE insists that they have to remain unharmed and that they are no longer a threat -at least for Phoebe.
Matthies learns that Jane and Chris are holding onto the twins and decides to trust JAKE’s judgement and not inform any other member of their stay.
26.11.2087 | Nathan wakes up after a few days and requires extensive care for 2 to 3 months, along with re-education to recover from his injuries. Thankfully his experience with the Drift allows him to quickly learn and adapt to his exo-spine and he manages to straighten up way faster than planned.

03.2088 | Nathan can walk again but requires a regular treatment to relieve the pressure of the exo-spine’s weight and the energy required for it to function.
Nathan calls out JAKE for being distant and secretive, to which he cracks and tells him Andrew and Phoebe have been in their care the whole time. Nate is furious and demands to see him, to which both Chris and Jane refuse, the later especially angry as she had been in charge of Exagone while he was away and that she had to fix many issues he had left hanging, too busy running after Andrew and Marco personally.
This sets the team apart, all of them taking different parties.
JAKE | he decides to protect the Twins, claiming this is bigger than them. He is firmly holding his stance and won’t back down. This creates a huge tension between him and Nathan, who no longer chats with him, only for the minimum required.
Sheryl | Sheryl finds her brother to be unbearable, they fight multiple times, underlying the fact that she lost their father too, that she is justified as much as he is to be angry ; she is seen as the second best go to when Nathan is unavailable and ends up being a center point for Exagone reluctantly. While she is angry at the Twins, especially Andrew for Nathan’s disabilities, she is focused on moving forward against DS and go back to their regular life, especially with their mother in mind. She is more likely to discuss with Phoebe and they begin to plan things against the corporations together.
Shawn | he is furious about the turn of events and cuts off his contacts with Chris for hiding this from him. He leaves the hideout and disappears for a while. He only speaks briefly with Nathan during his recovery.
Chris | he’s heartbroken about Shawn’s departure but remains impassible on his stance to protect the Twins.
Jane | Jane, being the last to join the squad, feels a little lost in the dynamic. While she is hot-headed and brutally honest, she is torn between her friendship with Nathan and the conditioning of the Twins that led them there. She only voices her opinion on their situation to say it’s best to keep Nathan and Andrew apart.
Matthies | they are focused on keeping the walls of Exagone up as best they can. These tasks of maintaining safety is extenuating and they are running exhausted by the minute. They ask to be left out of the fight to rest and focus.
Nathan | he gives the silent treatment to everyone, refusing to interact with the others and speaking coldly to JAKE. He pretends not to care anymore and focuses on upgrading his Drift and spine connection.
As Chris and Jane decide to let Andrew and Phoebe roam the place, Nathan ends up accidentally cornering Andrew.
”Give me ONE REASON not to shoot you in the head right here and there!”, he barks, his pistol
mere centimeters away from the taller man’s face.
They fight for a long time after that, Andrew claiming he had no choice in the operations, while Nathan counters him saying he chose to go all the way and nearly kill him, that this wasn’t just following a plan, this was personal.
Things escalate as they talk louder and louder, which alarms Chris who arrives in a panic with Sheryl. Upon arrival, Nathan and Andrew are panting from their fight and huff in annoyance.
”I’m not asking for your approval, I just need to find a way to protect Phoebe and so far you’re my best case scenario.
I won’t stay longer than needed, but in the meantime, let’s at least make it bearable for everyone around. Please…” Andrew sighs, his eyes pleading for Nathan to give into his request.
”FINE! Whatever! Just get outta my way. I need to think about… stuff”
The other barks back, his shoulder bumping into him as he leaves the room.
06.2088 | The group comes back together after some time, as they acclimate to the Twins’ presence. They join their plans in hopes of understanding better DS’ and the UMF’s plans.
Chris visits Shawn and begs him to come back. He doesn't answer, still angry.
He comes back after Nathan and Matthies request for him to be present, as he is a key element of the group. He is still angry against Chris but pulls him apart first chance to clear their banter once and for all.
Despite not hearing what was discussed, the rest of the group notices Chris’ teary eyes and soft smile as he holds Shawn’s hand walking back in.
Of course Sheryl pinched Nathan’s arm, not believing that the two finally seemed to go forward.
!! Have Nathan and Andrew continuously fight here and there, gradually less explosive and meaningless !!
08.2088 | The summer goes by and the UMF has not yet gotten a hold on the Twins. Nathan feels like there is an underlying current of tension in the air, about to blow at any moment.
Matthies tries to reassure him that they should use that time to reorganise things and make the most of that time by upgrading JAKE.
Phoebe gets a taste of real life and being surrounded by honest and good hearted people. She becomes best friends immediatly with Sheryl once she opens up.
Andrew gets to meet Jane and they grow close as friends. She recounts anecdotes on Nathan, which captivates Andrew’s attention. He finds out with Nathan is so dead set on his goal, and understands how necessary the downfall of DS is.
09.2088 | As the summer comes to a close, Exagone and Nathan are both in better shape.
The medias underline how the accusations are evolving quickly but many worry that the peace and quiet is hiding something.
DS is still up and running and, although Marco has yet to release a statement, all know that he is still very well alive.
Thanks to the shards from [TANAKA], [JAKE] becomes nearly one with the Drift and the DS database.
He becomes their final weapon to break the corporations at the cost of the integrity of the built network. They have to make a decision if they are willing to face the consequences of such a big act, that could break the economy, safety and health services of some sorts.
Nathan even mentions it with his sister, thinking of their mother who works in the health service and how it’s gonna wreck havoc.

SEPT. 2088 | Marco's Hunt
30.09.2088 | Marco decides to take the reigns and orders the [OPSY Squad] to be equipped with implants, turning them into super-soldiers, and tracking members of Exagone one by one, setting Nathan as his final target.
He first aims for satellite groups and uses Andrew’s methods to kill them. Thankfully, Andrew being under Exagone’s care clears his name of suspicions. He doubles in meetings with the group to explain all of his training.
The city is back into a state of panic, but the fear leaves everyone silent in anticipation.
15.10.2088 | Ahmed is brutally murdered by Marco’s men and Nathan is in shambles at the loss. He wants to fight back on his own, to get revenge.
Andrew begs him to use him to fight the [OPSY Squad] because he will not survive without his training, to which Nathan agrees and they work hand in hand to prepare for their encounter. They keep this relatively secret from the rest of the group.
23.10.2088 | Nathan and Andrew finally get laid after months of gravitating around one another. They are both in distress mentally and find solace and comfort in each other’s arms.
They don't talk much but it feels natural for them, familiar even to move in tandem as they kiss and hold onto one another.
25 OCT. 2088 | Andrew kills Marco
25.10.2088 | Nathan confronts [MARCO ANATIA KALEO] as he is about to finish another Exagone member.
Nathan calls him into a duel which Marco rabidly runs for, wishing to end the Bender bloodline once and for all. As Andrew comes to his rescue after killing the other [OPSY Squad], they both manage to put a stop to Marco.
They believe him to be out but not dead, keeping him alive for trials, but as Nathan turns to Andrew, Marco wakes again and shoots him in the back.
Andrew pulls Marco away and promptly wrecking his skull head into pieces. He is stopped after long minutes by Nathan’s hand on his shoulder, his spine implant dented where the shot hit but not pierced.
*”It’s over, Andrew. It’s over… We did it… You’re free now. We did it” he pats Andrew’s back as the other sobs into his arms.*
They come back in silence to the hideout, everyone is silent and waiting for them to say a word.
Shawn is the one to break the silence and nod to Nathan, “For Ahmed”, to which Nathan nods back, surprised that Shawn is the one to couragously talk, before everyone exclaims the same and starts celebrating the fall of [MARCO ANATIA KALEO].

Neo-UMF is formed after the events to replace the UMF, with a citizen say this time.
As Andrew helps Nathan with repairing his exo-spine, they discuss their adventures and plans for the future.
They joke around a little and Nathan admits that there’s more than just complicity between them, despite their countless fights. Andrew jokes that this may have been part of the charm all along, and asks Nathan what should they do about it, being clueless in the romantic domain.
Nathan tells him they have all the time in the world to figure it out now and smiles peacefully as Andrew continues his ministrations.
They are spotted by the rest of the group as they come back and Jane rolls her eyes, while Sheryl and Phoebe.
Matthies sits back in the beanbag by the sofa and scans the rest of the group with his new, all the more garish, eyeglasses before he exclaims
“So what’s next? For us all, I mean”
They collectively decide to finish in dignity and go out to the trials without their anonimity to give their testimony.

The UMF and DS are officially dismantled.
Pharmatek is being investigated on. Andrew and Phoebe are still under the protection of Exagone, who no one dares question about this.
Nathan (25) discussed with Matthies (33) about his studies after 5 years away from the university. He admits that the fight left him too changed to go back to normalcy, being his implants or the events he went through.
Matthies offers him a legit job at [FUNKY NEON Arcade], only if he stops smoking and goes easy on the implant dosage, which Nathan laughs about but accepts, setting the deal with a handshake. The reduced dosage makes him less efficient in his movements, but it’s a price he’s willing to pay to live to see another day. At least a little while longer…

Pressed charges against Nathan Bender, now 30, are officially relieved, as well as all members of the core Exagone.
