THE FELINE FATALE
Real Name: Katrina Bast
Identity: Secret (Known to Captain Amazing and Night Scorpion)
Known Relatives: Fiorella Bast, Mother. Mateo Bast, Father. Ian Bast, younger brother.
Powers & Abilities: Katrina is an Olympic level gymnast and acrobat. She is trained in taekwondo and enjoys base jumping, sky diving, and rock climbing (she frequently free climbs). She is also an expert at picking pockets and locks. There is not a safe in the world that can keep your stuff safe from her.
History: Katrina Bast was born in Peru, but her family moved to the United States when she was five. She has a younger brother, Ian, who she is very close to and is very protective of. Her brother was never very successful and tended to make poor life choices and bows to pressure from his "friends". Her family settled in Miami Florida and Katrina was an honor student and was on the gymnastics team. She graduated near the top of her class and left Florida to attend Princeton University, on a gymnastics scholarship, where she received a bachelor's degree in business.
Her college roommate, Cindy Sommers, was a Fashion Design major. The two remained friends after graduation. Katrina was hired into an executive training program at Kane Industries (Kane Industries is owned by Bill Kane aka Night Scorpion) in Empire City. Cindy went on to become a successful fashion designer, after working as an apprentice to successful fashion mogul, Sandra Barrows.
One night the pair were hanging out backstage before one of Cindy's early fashion shows, which was taking place in Empire City. Just a few minutes before the start of the show, one of the models twisted her ankle. Cindy begs Katrina to fill in, as she would fit the dress. Katrina agrees and enjoys the experience and the spotlight. She also was great at it, her gymnastics training and poise making her a natural. An agent representing a few of the other models offers her a modeling contract, which she accepts. She goes on to a successful, and lucrative, career with modeling gigs across the globe.
Katrina uses her newfound wealth to open the Bast Foundation, which operates no-kill animal shelters, veterinary clinics, and research into curing several major pet illnesses such as FIP (Feline infectious peritonitis). She hired Ian to be her proxy at the Bast Foundation while she was away on shoots, feeling it would give her directionless sibling a chance to find himself. While life was going well for Katrina, things were about to take a fateful turn.
She receives a phone call from a mysterious person, using a voice changer, claiming to have her brother, and that they will kill him if she does not pay a ten-million-dollar ransom. Fearing that her brother would still be killed if she paid the ransom, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She enlists the help of a friend on her staff that handles her social media and tech-based issues. They manage to trace the GPS of her brother's phone to its current location. To hide her identity, she makes a costume, using skills she learned from helping Cindy with fashion projects back in college. She arms herself with a taser she used for personal protection, as well as pepper spray. Taking some compact climbing gear, she sets out to rescue Ian.
Katrina, now garbed as the Feline Fatale, breaks into the building where her brother's phone is located. She takes out several henchmen and manages to find Ian... free and commanding the criminals. Angry at her brother's betrayal, she vents her rage by taking out the remaining criminals. She unmasks and confronts Ian. She tells him they are done. She won't turn him in to the police, but he is fired, and she never wants to see or speak to him again.
Katrina found that she enjoyed the rush of adrenaline that being the Feline Fatale provided. Being drawn to the danger and excitement led her to don the costume again when Cindy's former mentor, Sandra Barrows, steals fashion designs from her in order to use them to boost her own now failing career. As the Feline Fatale Katrina broke into Barrows' office and steals back the designs as well as proof of the theft. Barrows is ruined and Cindy releases her new line as planned.
Katrina decided to keep going out as the Feline Fatale. She would target those she viewed as corrupt and steal from them and use the money to help people, as her modeling career has reached superstar status, and she is quite wealthy. The Bast Foundation also regularly receives large "anonymous" donations.
On a modeling job in Empire City, Katrina starts to date Captain Amazing (after orchestrating a disaster so they would meet) in order to keep an eye on him and provide herself a perfect alibi as all of her crimes in Empire City occur while she is on dates with him. Night Scorpion deduces her identity and tries in vain to convince Captain Amazing he is dating a supervillain. Eventually Captain Amazing is forcefully convinced, and they confront her. She confesses and after an emotional goodbye, he lets her escape, which really angers Night Scorpion. Captain Amazing and Night Scorpion decide not to out her as long as she doesn't return to Empire City.
A few years have passed, and Katrina is still working successfully as a model and the Bast Foundation is doing well. She has not returned to Empire City, though has learned from a private investigator she has on an indefinite retainer to follow Ian, who has relocated there, that he has drifted through the underworld ever since being fired for faking his own kidnapping. He has been a henchman for several different supervillains over the years and has recently gone to work for Radion, a radiation-powered hero. Radion's henchmen tend to have short lives as prolonged exposure to his powers causes cancer. Despite their differences, she cannot let her brother die a slow painful death, so she decides to go back to Empire City and save her brother by taking down Radion, but to do that she's going to need some Amazing help.
