The annual winter market turns a cozy corner of Erebus into a lively maze of holiday stalls, seasonal activities, and long standing Christmas traditions. The market surrounds a freshly constructed ice rink, open to all for casual skating, or for joining the market-spanning competition. Nearby, a towering Christmas tree waits to be decorated with ornaments crafted or purchased by visitors, all of which will be hung on December 23rd to complete the display before Christmas.
The scent of warm drinks and seasonal treats fill the air, including the famous Magolian Hot Chocolate, which volunteers who helped with market setup can enjoy for free. Visitors can browse handmade goods, enjoy live music performances, sample food from other galaxies, and take part in familiar holiday customs as the month unfolds. Gift-giving is a widely celebrated tradition during this time, and the market naturally becomes the go-to spot for finding something meaningful.
The market runs through the end of December, closing on New Year's Eve after the grand citywide celebration. When the countdown projected onto the World Tree strikes midnight and fireworks light up the sky, the festival winds to a close, marking the end of the year.
A rentable pair of ice skates.
At the heart of the Winter Market sits a freshly built ice skating rink, constructed just for the season and wrapped on all sides by festive stalls. Anyone is welcome to rent skates and take a spin, but those who volunteered during the market's setup are rewarded with unlimited free access for the entire duration. (For clarity: this is all for fun; no real renting is required!)
Throughout the duration of the Market, skaters can sign up-- solo or with a partner-- for a jolly competition. Judges will score each performance based on skill, creativity, and pure entertainment value. Even if you skate like a baby Giraffarig trying to find its footing on an oil slick, you might just charm the judges enough to walk away with a prize.
The winners will be announced on the market's final day, December 31st, wrapping up the holiday season with one last hurrah.
Prompt; Depict your character (partner optional) performing on the ice skating rink for the judges. Both characters will be judged separately if applicable. Once you have submitted the piece via ticket, you will be asked to roll 1d20 for each category. Provided at least three people sign up, there will be three winners.
The prize is your choice between a character slot or a megastone, either of which you may keep for yourself, or you may gift to a friend in holiday spirit.
Requirements; submission must be at least full body and colored with a prop background to qualify.
In a large square beside the winter market stands a towering Christmas tree, so big that the market needs your help to decorate it. Throughout the month, your characters are encouraged to craft or purchase ornaments to contribute. Whether its a heartfelt keepsake, an absolute disaster, a joke, or even something held together entirely by hot glue and hope, everything is welcome.
On December 23rd, all the collected ornaments will be hung, transforming the massive tree into a mosaic of everyone's love and creativity, just in time for Christmas.
If it sparks joy... it belongs on the tree.
Prompt; This one is a little different. Your task is to create an ornament that your character would place on a tree. It can be as simple as a plain bauble, or you could even go out of your way to string up intricately glued together craft paper.
On December 23rd, I will place all of the submitted ornaments on a tree to present to the group. While there is no prize, its an absolutely joyous occasion.
You may use any medium, even IRL crafts if you like. There is no limit for how many ornaments you can submit, the more the merrier. Just remember to have fun!
Hand-crafted ornaments to be placed on the tree. Won't it be lovely to see them all together?
On New Year's Eve, a massive glowing countdown is projected into the trunk of the World Tree, visible from nearly every corner of Erebus. As midnight approaches, it is customary for those present to step outside; onto balconies, into courtyards, out their front doors, or into many parties happening across the city in order to watch the final minutes tick away together.
When the clock strikes midnight, tradition encourages sharing a kiss with someone near by. It can be a partner, a dear friend, or even a total stranger swept up in the moment. It's not mandatory, of course, but plenty of people still join in on the fun if not for the sentiment, then a chance at a little holiday magic. It is also common to toast champagne!
Moments later, fireworks burst over the skyline, painting the night in color and officially ringing in the new year.
Prompt; Depict your character celebrating NYE! While the traditions are entirely optional, I encourage having fun with them if that's up your alley.
