As the weather cools with each rain-soaked day, Erebus seems to slip into a quieter season. The last of the leaves have already fallen, leaving the city bare and expectant as winter approaches. The foliage shed to leave soggy mosaics on the sidewalks, only brushed away in the upper districts.
As more people stay indoors, Erebus feels different; the cafes are busier, windows glow earlier in the evenings, and entire districts seem to have taken a collective sigh of relief as they settle in for the cold. Households begin their various forms of preparation, each one shaped by the traditions brought from other systems. Some families hang window lanterns, others begin cooking long-simmering family recipes. Many prepare for travel, packing bags and securing transportation to their home systems for traditional feasts and time with their loved ones.
Autumn in Erebus may be a transitional period between the excitement of Halloween and the festive activities to come, but there is still plenty to do when one is feeling ambitious.
A sleek looking Holowatch, now 70% off. It's last years model, but there's nothing wrong with that.
Black friday has finally returned, and by some miracle, the good deals are for real this time. ZapRack, a tech superstore, has decided to go absolutely wild with the clearance as usual-- up to 85% off everything from holophones to ship navigation systems. The line to get inside stars the day before, wrapping around the block as shoppers pitch tents and set up portable heaters as they pass time. Other stores are doing the same, though not all sales are created equal.
Last years festivities resulted in twenty-two arrests for crimes ranging from battery and public intoxication, to theft, and notoriously, vehicular manslaughter via shopping cart. Regardless, spirits remain high. The Knights have released a short PSA going over the dangers of Black Friday, and how to keep yourself safe.
Prompt; Depict your character and others fighting for their lives to get those sweet, sweet deals. This event is not exclusive to Zaprack! They can shop anywhere they like. What kinds of items did your character score? Who did they fight to get them?
Preparations for the annual winter market have begun in earnest, and the beloved local nonprofit behind the event is seeking extra hands to help transform a city square into a festive wonderland. Volunteers can choose whichever tasks suit their skills.
Some take on the creative work, spending afternoons and evenings crafting lanterns, hand-painted ornaments, and intricate paper decorations inspired by cultures from other systems. Others gravitate toward the more structural projects, helping to assemble wooden stalls that will soon house vendors and artisans. There's always a team dedicated to stringing lights through trees and over the walkways until the plaza glows. And of course, a sizable crew is needed to constructing the ice rink, laying down panels, sealing it all up, and tending to the layers of ice as they freeze.
The atmosphere during the setup is always lively, music playing from portable speakers, the air filled with sawdust, hot fragrant drinks, and bustling chatter and laughter.
In exchange for their help, volunteers will earn unlimited Magolian Hot Chocolate (widely agreed to be the best in the city) as well as free admission to the ice rink once the market officially opens in mid-December.
Prompt; Depict your character helping out to set up the winter market. They can help with anything listed. It may be a little chilly outside... dress warm!
Delicious, Magolian Hot Chocolate, perfectly rich and balanced. It's delectable, heaven and a warm hug, all in mug for your convenience.
