You can install the add-on directly from your Blender Preferences, pointing to the zip you downloaded.
Note that since Blender 4.2, add-ons can now be used as Extensions. Photographer 5 is compatible with both workflows.
If you have a previous version installed (i.e Photographer 2, 3 or 4), it is important to remove it first from the Preferences and restart Blender before installing the new version.
- Open the Preferences menu (Edit >Preferences...), go to the Get Extensions tab
- Click on the top right arrow, select Install from Disk
- Select the zip file your downloaded from Gumroad.
- The add-on will then get installed and automatically loaded.
You can confirm it in the Add-ons tab.
If you are getting errors, try doing a clean Add-on installation by doing these steps:
- Download the zip file from your Gumroad library or from the Gumroad Photographer page (make sure to be logged in with the account that bought the add-on).
- In Windows Explorer, go to %appdata%\Blender Foundation\Blender\4.3\extensions\user_default\
- On Linux, go to /home/$user/.blender/4.3/extensions/user_default/
or /.config/blender/4.1/extensions/user_default/
- On macOS, go to /Users/Username/Library/Application Support/Blender/4.3/extensions/user_default/
Note : change the 4.3 in the path above to the number of the Blender version you are using.
Change user_default is the default Repository for Extensions, please change the name of the folder in case you are using another repository.
- Delete any photographer folder or photographer file that would be in there. You can always copy it somewhere else for backup.
- Unzip the file you downloaded into that same folder. You should now have a new photographer folder.
- Start Blender and make sure to check that the Add-on is enabled in the Preferences (Edit > Preferences > Add-ons)
- Open the Preferences menu (Edit >Preferences...), go to the Add-ons tab
- Click on the top right arrow, select Install from Disk
- Select the zip file your downloaded from Gumroad.
- The add-on will then get installed and automatically loaded.
If you are getting errors, try doing a clean Add-on installation by doing these steps:
- Download the zip file from your Gumroad library or from the Gumroad Photographer page (make sure to be logged in with the account that bought the add-on).
- In Windows Explorer, go to %appdata%\Blender Foundation\Blender\4.1\scripts\addons
- On Linux, go to /home/$user/.blender/4.1/scripts/addons/
or /.config/blender/4.1/scripts/addons/
- On macOS, go to /Users/Username/Library/Application Support/Blender/4.1/scripts/addons
Note : change the 4.1 in the path above to the number of the Blender version you are using.
- Delete any photographer folder or photographer file that would be in there. You can always copy it somewhere else for backup.
- Unzip the file you downloaded into that same addons folder. You should now have a new photographer folder.
- Start Blender and make sure to activate the add-on in your Preferences (Edit > Preferences > Add-ons)
The Add-on tab will appear in the Add-on Panel (also known as N-Panel) on the right side of the 3D Viewport. You have the possibility to rename the Tab and merge it with others by changing the Category name in the Add-on preferences.
New parameters and tools for Cameras and Lights will also appear in their corresponding Properties panel.
It is also accessible from the Sticky Menu (5.4.7) by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Alt+C by default (hotkey can be changed in the Add-on preferences).
The most used properties can also be quickly accessed through the Pie menu by pressing Ctrl+Shift+C by default (hotkey can be changed in the Add-on preferences).
It is possible that you receive an error message like the following one when enabling the add-on:
PermissionError: [WinError 5] Access is denied: 'C:\\Program Files\\Blender Foundation\\Blender 3.5\\3.5\\scripts\\presets\\photographer'
This is because the add-on installs preset files and textures during the first activation. If your script folder is located in Program Files, Windows won't allow the add-on to copy these files.
I would recommend installing the add-on in the %appdata%\Blender Foundation\Blender\3.5\scripts\addons or somewhere else that is not write-protected to avoid such problems. In case your Blender is still looking to install scripts and add-ons in the Program Files folder, you may want to change the script path from the Preferences:
