The partnership roles below are the most important positions to fill in order to ensure that classrooms are able to fully realize the Discovery mission. Below is a list of the roles that need to be filled in each classroom to ensure our program operates smoothly. All roles are year-long commitments.

Classroom Partnership Roles
The following roles provide support specific to a classroom.
Roles are starred by time commitment levels:

Appointed by the Lead Classroom Coordinators with input from the teacher
Attends Classroom Coordinator Orientation, scheduling roundtable meetings, and quarterly Classroom Coordinator meetings
Coordinates opportunites for families to partner in the classroom
Collaborates closely with the teacher to implement classroom goals, address issues, and answer questions at Back to School Night
Promotes community between students, teachers, and families through communications and planned classroom gatherings
Works closely with other partnership roles such as Field Trip Coordinators, Celebration Coordinators, and Fundraising Coordinators (Scholastic Book Fair, Spring Auction, etc.)
Delivers communications to the classroom from staff/administration
Appointed by Lead Field Trip Coordinator in consultation with Classroom Coordinator and Classroom Teacher
Collaborate with other Field Trip Coordinators within the grade, as well as the Overnight Field Trip Coordinator
Arrange field trips under the direction of the teacher; arrange all transportation, including parent carpools/chaperones; track classroom field trip expenses; obtain approval from office staff and ED for dates and times of field trips
Create and send out a Sign Up Genius page for all field trips to recruit parents to drive and chaperone
Supply parents with all necessary information regarding specific trips
Send out reminder emails one week before and 1 to 2 days prior to trips
Print all required field trip documentation, and prepare necessary field trip packets. Prior to each trip, create a field trip driver list with assistance from the teacher
Notify teachers of students who are unable to attend due to lack of permission; send out field trip notices to parents at least three weeks before the scheduled event
Appointed by Lead Overnight Field Trip Coordinator in consultation with Lead Field Trip Coordinator, Classroom Coordinators, and Classroom Teachers
For grades 4-8, coordinate overnight field trips with Classroom Overnight Field Trip Coordinators and school administration
Responsible for communications about overnight field trips; distributing and collecting the necessary form, gathering, and tracking of field trip payments
Work directly under the PSC Celebration Officer
Serve as classroom rep for Staff Appreciation Week
Assistant with Staff Luncheons, and monthly breakfast/coffee
Coordinate classroom potlucks, celebrations, and other special events that the teacher requests
Organize teacher’s birthday and end of year gift
Understand how art can be integrated into the curriculum as multi-disciplinary learning
Manage materials, curriculum, and budget resources
Plan lessons, with the direction and input from the teacher
Work/Communicate with other Art Enrichment Coordinators to make sure resources are being used efficiently
Serve as liaison between the teacher and other Enrichment Leads to promote collaboration in curriculum development
Understand how cooking can be integrated into the curriculum as multi-disciplinary learning
Manage the cooking supply and storage area, calling in donations as needed
Meet with other classroom Cooking Leads to share materials, curriculum, and budget resources
Assist in building the school resource library for cooking projects
Meet with individual teachers and other enrichment coordinators to support the program as needed
Communicate with the PSC Staff Support Officer to inform of progress/issues
Understand how nature appreciation and gardening can be integrated into the curriculum as multi-disciplinary learning
Receive training from the Nature Appreciation Facilitator
Work/Communicate with other Nature Appreciation Coordinators to make sure resources are being used correctly and efficiently
Serve as liaison between the teacher and other Nature Appreciation Coordinators to promote consistency and collaboration in curriculum development
Understand how another language can be integrated into the curriculum as multi-disciplinary learning
Meet with other classroom Language Leads to share materials, curriculum, and budget resources
Meet with individual teachers and other enrichment coordinators to support the program as needed
Communicate with the PSC Staff Support Officer to inform of progress/issues
Understand how science can be integrated into the curriculum as multi-disciplinary learning
Manage the science supply and storage area, calling in donations as needed

Weekly job - Work in the Library while a classroom visits and checks out books. This shift is usually an hour and might also include snack recess. Your shift will be determined based on your availability and when classrooms plan on visiting.

Share your love of reading with DCS! 3 or 4 outgoing parents can help create fun reading displays, host reading events, and possibly outreach to classrooms to share Library news. Time commitment will vary but estimate for 2 hours a month.
