ASH ISLAND STORY
This is a retelling of the events on the Ash Island by a Hyur named Trox Wolfe, who was found on the island by the heroes.
Long ago, in the Second Astral Era, this was once a prosperous city known as Dracacre. From the four corners of the world, everyone started to come to the city. Dracacre grew and was the pinnacle of magical wonders. Then, everything changed.
A Hyur male, who went by the name Kharon Thane, appeared during our summer festival. He was dressed in all black and wearing a long black cloak. Kharon went on to foretell us about an upcoming apocalypse that would destroy the people of Dracacre, and the city would be left in ruins. While a majority of the people at the summer festival thought he was just a madman, some people did flee the island.
As quickly as the Hyur appeared, he disappeared for several months. We believed he had left on a ship back to the mainlands.
About a month later, people started to get sick, and our healers were unable to stop it nor figure out what was causing it. It had all the symptoms of a viral infection. Each person's body would grow increasingly warmer that they would be hot to the touch. We figure that the increased temperature would just cause their bodies to give out and they would die. It was truly a horrible sight as I was the head healer in Dracacre.
Over the course of a few weeks, fifty percent of the population was dead. Without a known cause or cure, we had to burn the bodies of the infected. The smell of the dead washed over the city. The skies turned grey due to all the fires.
While we recovered from the disaster, the Hyur returned again. Kharon laughed and claimed he had predicted all that had come. Many of the remaining people began to fear him, this dark wizard. He claimed that Dracacre was not free from the upcoming apocalypse, and that what was experienced was just the opening act.
As nightfall came, a large fire began to burn in the city. The fire grew and raged through the buildings and streets of Dracacre. People fled to the docks to get to safety before the fire engulfed everyone. On the docks, stood Kharon, blocking everyone's path.
There, he gave us a choice. Join him, and survive the approaching death. Decline, face the fire, and turn to ash. Several people agreed to join him. They formed a line, blocking the rest of us.
We fought for our survival, but were unsuccessful. After the fires swept through the city, all that remained was the ashes. Those who joined the dark wizard survived. They boarded one of the ships, the Horizon, and left the Dracacre.
What you have seen in the remains of Dracacre are the spirits of those who died. The people and I are stuck here, anchored by the crystal and the Horizon, that keep us from resting peacefully.
Kharon Thane has many followers and allies. He has his trusted lieutenants too. They walk among you, watch your every move. Do not trust those who you do not know.
