Long before the Calamity, there was a full rigged ship called the Invincible. The captain was a large Roegadyn named Sylbdoen who was the most arrogant and pompous Roegadyn one would ever meet. He was so proud of the Invincible. The mighty Roegadyn would claim it could outsail the gods themselves.
Over the years, Captain Sylbdoen gathered and collected hordes of wealth, from massive amounts of jewels, gems, crystals and gil. The captain always claimed that they hid the treasure somewhere in the Sea of Ash. A lost island that they only knew where to find it.
The captain and the crew started to attack any sailing ship that would dare venture into the Sea of Ash. All the nations declared them pirates, and whoever was able to take down the Invincible would be handsomely rewarded.
Countless ships tried to be the one who finally sunk the Invincible. Unfortunately, none were up to the task. More and more ships were lost to this venture. And the wealth and power of Captain Sylbdoen and the crew grew.
One warm summer day, Captain Sylbdoen was taunting the ships that he had just attacked. The ships sank into the cold abyss of the sea.
Suddenly, a large storm formed over the Invincible. Lightning streaked across the sky. Thunder shook everything. Rain and hail pounded the captain and the crew, sending them scrabbling for cover.
The large Roegadyn raised his fist towards the sky, cursing the gods. He claimed he would never be stopped no matter what was thrown at the Invincible.
The Invincible had started to take damage from the storm. Lightning struck the forward mast, sending burning debris all around the deck. Huge waves shook the ship, sending several crew members falling into the unforgiving black sea.
The captain hollered at his crew to push forward, to move the ship out of the storm. The Invincible sailed forward, seeking the end of the storm. However, the ship was never seen again.
Many believe that the ship was sunk in the storm, sending all those aboard to a horrible grave. Some believe they made it back to their island filled with all the wealth they obtained. What happened to all that wealth they collected so long ago?
But what caused the storm that suddenly appeared above the Invincible? Was it the gods punishing Captain Sylbdoen? Did any of them survive?
