HINTS AND CLUES
EVENT SUMMARY
The heroes walked off the dock on the Ash Island. A faint fog covers the island only allowing the heroes to see so far. A layer of ash covers everything on the island. The heroes walk into the island, leaving footprints in the ash.
They make their way towards the city near the dock. The fog gets thicker as the heroes move more inland. The city is blocked by a worn gate, locked from the inside. A hero climbs the wall and opens the gate from the other side by removing a old rotting log.
Inside the city, the strange occurrences begin again. Whispers and noises of children are heard on the fringes of the fog. Several heroes start to believe it is from something long ago. The heroes start to feel something sad about the city.
Deeper in the city, a light appears in the lighthouse down the road. It quickly goes out, alerting the heroes to something nearby. They move towards the sign of life, carefully.
As the heroes arrive at open gate, they spot the light of something off in the distance. It moves away slowly, as if it is trying to guide the heroes somewhere. The heroes, being alert and careful for a trap, follow cautiously.
They cross a bridge and the fog gets thicker. The sound of winged creatures are heard in the fog, along with whispers. The heroes continue on, following the light.
In the distance, a house is found. As the light enters the house, the heroes notice that ash has started to fall from the sky. The fog continues to get thicker.
Entering the house, the heroes don't find a treasure, but something else. Inside, a spirit of a Hyur named Trox Wolfe stands inside. Next to him is a large crystal. He goes on to explain to the heroes the tragic tail of the Ash Island, known as Dracacre during the Second Astral Era. He explains that the Horizon was a ship from their city and how they were killed by a dark wizard named Kharon Thane.
The spirit gave the heroes a choice. They would be able to do only one thing, either help the spirits stuck on the island by destroying the crystal, which would destroy the island; or they could go after the treasure held on the island, in a building nearby. The heroes would have a portal that would send them back to Gridania if they agreed to help the trapped spirits.
The heroes agreed to destroy the crystal and save the trapped souls. Hock, a purple pig companion, and Kure rushed back to the ship to get the crew to the house. Upon returning to the building, the spirit opens the portal, and the crew heads home. The heroes follow suit after destroying the crystal.
The crystal explodes after all the heroes are off the island. A wave of peace follows afterwards. The Ash Island is retaken by the sea, and the spirits are finally free to rest.
