Term 4 Newsletter
Welcome back to Term 4.
HWB- Physical education sessions are scheduled for Monday afternoons, providing an opportunity for active engagement and skill development. We eagerly await the upcoming Sports Day where we enjoy a day filled with energy and enthusiasm. Additionally, we will maintain our commitment to excellent oral hygiene by continuing our daily toothbrushing routine, ensuring a focus on health and well-being.
Project-We are delving into the wonders of the solar system, planets and the vast universe beyond this term. This topic on Space will inspire creativity and critical thinking, allowing the children to expand their knowledge in an engaging and imaginative way.
Food and Farming
Art
We made a fantastic and creative display making the classroom environment more engaging. Using different media helped the children explore various artistic techniques.
We understand food grown on a farm originates from carefully cultivated land where skilled farmers nurture crops and rear livestock.
In RME the children enjoyed learning about the story of Samson and his great strength. For the follow up activity, they completed their worksheet, using wool to represent Samson’s hair creativity. This hands-on task helped reinforce their understanding of the story in a fun and engaging way.
They were introduced to the Islamic religion, learning about its beliefs, traditions and the importance of prayer. The class enjoyed learning about the inside of a mosque and exploring the key features of this special place of worship.
The class enjoyed learning colours and numbers in French. They practiced pronouncing new words confidently and had fun using songs and games to reinforce their learning.
Welcome back to Term 3.
HWB - We have scheduled PE for Wednesday afternoons which will be a nice midweek activity. Mrs. Paterson will lead this. We will continue to focus on brushing teeth, which is essential to maintaining good oral hygiene. Taking water bottles to school encourages hydration while ensuring cleanliness by bringing them home daily. A name label or sticker to avoid mix-ups is also advisable.
Project - Exploring Food and Farming offers many hands-on learning opportunities. We will explore farm buildings and animals. We will understand farmland used and the journey of foods. Also developing an understanding that all food comes from either a plant or animal. The Little Red Hen to discuss teamwork and the importance of sharing tasks. Also planting sunflowers and tracking their growth will provide opportunities for the children to discuss what plants need to grow.
HWB - We are learning that our food has to be stored and prepared carefully so that it is safe for us to eat.
French - We are learning the names for different colours, listening to and copying pronunciation of colour names accurately.

We enjoy active learning during our Maths lessons. This means we have a variety of activities such as iPad work to promote digital literacy, using the smartboard, playing maths game and completing tasks. This supports a range of learning styles and makes sure all pupils can enjoy our lessons!
We have started our new topic 'Money'. The pupils have discussed how shape, size and colour of coins can help us identify what they are worth! Some of us have even been recognising how much notes are worth!
We have been discussing how Maths helps us in our daily life and linking this to our world of work learning!
Miss Bowyer
This term we will be looking at hygiene, road safety and friendships.
RWI - Purple Book Work
Pupils working on the Purple Books are working on Set 2 sounds. They are becoming more confident recognising these sounds which has helped with with their Fred Fingers. Fred Fingers is a tool to help pupils spell independently.
They have been enjoying their reading and are learning to peer assess and support each other while reading, and sometimes even while writing!
Pupils have also been improving the presentation of their work and are setting expectations for themselves.
One pupil said, "If I get my capital letters and full stops and finger spaces I can give myself all the ticks at the bottom."
PSAs have also commented on the listening and talking skills the pupils are demonstrating and their growing vocabulary!
Well done Purple Group!

Outdoor Learning - Maths
We had lovely weather so we decided to take our latest Maths learning outdoors!
Take a scroll through the image carousel on the right to see some of the lovely arrays and multiplication sentences we have been making! Some of even practiced our times tables too.
On the left you can see us practicing our equal groups with tyres. Our first challenge was to make groups of 2. We had 10 groups of 2 and worked out that this made the multiplication sentence '10 x 2' which was 20!
Next we had 8 groups of 3 which made the multiplication sentence '8 x 3'. First we thought that the answer was 28 but we checked by counting all the tyres and found out it was actually 24! We agreed it was okay to make a mistake and checking really helped!
Finally we had 6 groups of 4. This was the sum '6 x 4' and our answer was 24!

RWI - Green Book Work
Some of the Purple Group have been reading Green books during Term 3.
We have been practicing Set 1 and Set 2 sounds and are becoming more confident. We are all doing amazing, especially with our Set 1 sounds! This has helped us become more confident working independently and some of us are now writing sentences with no help or support! Wow!
Have a look at some of our recent work!
One pupil said, "I really like this story because the pirates have a fight!"
Another pupil said, "I can help other people now with their writing."
It is lovely to see the Purple Group's confidence group so much they are now offering peer support!

Term 3 - Multiplication
We have started our work on multiplication. We began with recognising and creating equal groups which we became super confident at!
We challenged ourselves by learning to write multiplication sentences using 'x' and '=' signs. Once we learned how to do this we began to use arrays and make multiplication sentenes with them!
Marc said, "Arrays makes it easier because you can see it more easily."
Adrijus said, "I am good at counting in 2s which makes it easier for me to multiply."
Layla said, "Multiplying helps us count super quickly!"
Artiom said, "You need to make the groups equal or it won't work."
Lots of us have really gained confidence by using concrete materials to create equal groups. Have a look at some pictures from one of our most recent lessons!

We are focusing on our Set 1 sounds and using Fred Fingers to help spell and write our words. We practice our sounds every day and are even beginning to learn some Set 2 sounds!
We have had a focus on tricky sounds including 'ck', 'sh', 'ng' and 'nk'!
One pupil said, "I like writing I am so good."
We are all improving our confidence reading and writing.
Well done Purple Group!

Term 3 - Money
During Term 2 we have been learning about money!
We really enjoyed using the till to buy and sell items. This helped us understand why learning about money is so important. Here are some quotes:
Ember: "So we can use the right money to buy things when we go to the shop."
Attajiri: "We can give the right change."
Leon: "It is fun to use money."
We also learned that using number lines or our fingers can help us when we are adding up money and counting coins.
Have a look through our image carousel on the right to see some of our learning! We are super proud.
Some of the pupils have even been asking their parents if they can count some money!

The Purple Group had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day.
Each year in March we have the opportunity to join in with the national buzz around reading and the celebration of books when we can encourage everyone to let go of pressure and expectations and give children a choice and a chance to grow a lifelong love of reading.
This annual celebration of authors, illustrators, books and the joy of reading is one of the highlights of our year at Central School.
‘’We had so much fun reading for pleasure. We also enjoyed making a book mark and designing a front cover for The Naughty Sheep which was a great story.’’ – The Purple Group
We had fun making sheep using different colours of wool!
Term 2 - Whole Number
During Term 2 we focused on whole number. This included some extra work on place value, addition and subtraction, and number bonds.
We learned to use lots of different strategies to help us including Numicon, base 10, partitioning, tens frames and place value charts. We had a discussion about our favourite supports to use and most of us like to use base 10 the most to help us!
Learning and practicing our number bonds really helped us with subtracting, adding and fact families. We learned that if we knew our number bonds to 10 it really helped us even when we were adding up to 100.
We got to try lots of different activities everyday such as SumDog (a real favourite), smartboard games, written work and using concrete materials for some hands-on learning! We talked about how having different activities is fun and helps us enjoy our Maths learning.
Some of us progressed onto skip counting and multiplication, this will help us with our future Maths topics.
Have a look at the pictures to see some of our learning throughout Term 2. In one picture you can see the pupils supporting each other with their learning. The Purple Group is really good at asking peers for support and helping each other. This also allows the 'helpers' to consolidate their learning by teaching another child.
Miss Bowyer
Term 2 is packed with exciting activities. Preparing for the Christmas show will be a highlight for the children and rehearsing songs and scenes will give them a wonderful chance to build confidence and work together as a team. Keeping PE on Wednesdays provides a consistent routine and Discovery Time is a fantastic opportunity for the children to explore interests and build various skills in a self-directed way.
Continuing the topic of Castles sounds fascinating.-designing and building model castles will allow for hands-on creativity, while learning about castle inhabitants will bring history to life.
Our HWB focus for Term 2 covers essential topics that will benefit the children in both the short and long term. Teaching hygiene and tooth brushing habits supports their health and self-care skills and lessons on relationships and friendships will help them build positive social skills and emotional understanding. Road safety will equip them with knowledge to keep safe in everyday situations.
Introducing Makaton and Polish is a wonderful addition to our curriculum. Continuing Makaton will help children develop non-verbal communication skills while introducing Polish is a fantastic way to foster an appreciation for different cultures and languages, helping to create a more inclusive environment for children who speak Polish.
Mrs Buchanan and Mrs Barska
We are creating some wonderful model castles by adding different 3D shapes to add detail to our final models!
We also added labels to identify different parts of the castles. Look at our achievement!

Feel Good Friday Walk!
After a week of working very hard and displaying good behaviour we went for a walk and visited the park! On our way we talked about road safety and being considerate of other people using the pavement.
We made sure to play with others and that everyone was included - this is a part of our class charter and Article 31's right to have friends.
Rokas played with younger children and pushed them gently on the swing. This was very kind and thoughtful.
Everyone said they really enjoyed the trip to the park and we had a really good 'Feel Good Friday'. We decided we wanted to continue our good behaviour so we could possibly have more walks to the park in the future!
Have a look through our pictures on the left!

Healthy Eating
As part of our Health and Wellbeing this term we learned about foods which are good for our bodies. We found out that we need a balance of lots of different foods. Some of us made a packed lunch with healthy foods. We picked our favourite fruits to add in! Other people decided to plan a meal and self-assessed their work to check they had at least one: fruit/vegetable, carbohydrate, protein, dairy and fat.
Here are some fun facts we learned:
A tomato is a fruit, not a vegetable!
An avocado is a fat, but it is really healthy.
A potato counts as a carbohydrate as well as a vegetable, but it does not count as one of your five a day!
Bringing in healthy snacks like apple slices will give us more energy and keep us healthy!
