Welcome to the Blue groups class page. My name is Jordan Grant and I am the teacher for the blue group every Friday, most afternoons and also I welcome them into school each morning. Apologies for the delay in this page getting up and running, I came into the school last term as a substitute teacher, but I am delighted to say that I am here for the majority of this term!
My aim is to create a fun, safe and positive environment that allows every child to reach their full potential. Let’s make term 4 the best one yet!
PE will be on Thursdays and Fridays with Miss Grant. In term 4 our PE focus will be athletics.
Pupils can bring in water, flavoured water or diluting juice to school. Please no fizzy drinks.
Feel good Friday – On Fridays pupils may come to school dressed in comfortable clothes – please no pyjamas.
Monday – Wednesday afternoons – Mrs Carle will be with us to help us with our IDL and HWB.
On Wednesday afternoons the Blue Group will have Miss Morrison for French and RME.
In term 4 our topic will be “How?”. We will be looking at how things are made, how different things work and how different flavours and scents are created. We discussed as a class what they wanted to know and here are some of their questions so far:
How volcanos erupt?
How chocolate is made?
How computers are programmed?
Our health & wellbeing focus for term 4 will be our emotions. We will be learning to express our feelings and developing the ability to talk about them with others. Additionally, we will develop skills and strategies to help us manage our feelings and emotions.
In Term 4 numeracy, the class will be learning about money, working with amounts up to £20 to develop their skills in handling and calculating with money. They will also be focusing on time, learning to interpret the 24-hour clock and read timetables accurately. Additionally they will be introduced to measurement, exploring length, area and volume through practical activities.
In Term 4, the class is continuing with the RWInc programme, incorporating grammar into their learning. They are completing comprehension tasks to develop their understanding of text and will be focusing on structuring their story writing using paragraphs. They will work on proofreading their work, extending their ideas, and experimenting with different story openings. Additionally, they will be learning how to follow and write instructions and use dictionaries to support their spelling and vocabulary.
The class engaged in a fascinating story-writing activity, explaining the process of turning wheat into bread. They carefully structured their writing to describe each stage, from harvesting the wheat to finally enjoying the finished loaf. This activity helped develop their sequencing skills and ability to use clear, detailed explanations while reinforcing their understanding of food production.
The class had great fun creating a cartoon story of Oor Wullie, using speech bubbles to bring their characters to life in Scots. They showed fantastic creativity and enthusiasm, experimenting with Scots vocabulary to make their stories more authentic and engaging. This activity helped develop their storytelling skills while celebrating Scottish language and culture.
“I liked learning about Scottish words and writing them in speech bubbles” said Elita.
The class showed great creativity in designing their own tiling shapes and transforming them into unique placemats. They explored patterns and repetition while developing their problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging way. The final designs were both imaginative and visually striking.
“I enjoyed tiling.” Said Wynter
“It was fun doing this and amazing. I like making tiling pictures.” said Kacper.
In Term 3, we continue with our well-structured literacy plan using the RWI Spelling and Comprehension books. We will use flashcards to reinforce weekly words and spelling homework with fun challenges has also been introduced. To enhance descriptive writing children will be encouraged to use adjectives and adverbs to help them create vivid and engaging stories.
Term 3 will develop a strong understanding of multiplication and children will confidently apply times table knowledge. Tables x6, x7, x8 and x9 will be introduced. Children will show confidence in multiplying two-digit numbers by one-digit number and apply strategies effectively. Exploring 3D shapes and their properties will help pupils understand concepts like faces, edges and vertices.
Hi, I am Mr. Martinez and I am delighted to be the teacher of your child this year. I was born in the sunny and warm Spain; my favourite colour is blue and I love travel, photography, cinema, books, running and collect stuff such as coins, notes, postcards, magnets, stickers, and stamps.
I am here to support you and make the learning journey of your child enjoyable and meaningful. The Blue Group is like a family and we aim to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens, and effective contributors.
We are learning different athletics skills through running games.
In term 2, we are focusing in the religion of Christianity. Later on, we will explore Jewish religion. In the last lesson, we learnt about The Miracle at Cana: Water into Wine. In the next week, we will watch and read more about Jesus miracles.
We are drawing and writing about four habitats according to their animals, conditions, food, shelters and landscapes.
Blue Group Update: End of Term 1
Welcome to our Blue Group! As we approach the end of Term 1, we’d like to reflect on all the exciting learning experiences we’ve had. This term, we embraced a new learning approach that made our activities more engaging and hands-on.
In literacy, we continued working with the RWI scheme in our groups and extended our learning through creative projects. One of the highlights was exploring the season of autumn, where we created beautiful pictures using leaf rubbings and dye. We also wrote our very own acrostic poems on autumn, showcasing our creativity and literacy skills.
In numeracy, we focused on place value and sharpened our problem-solving skills with a variety of games and tasks that made learning fun and interactive.
Our topic for this term was Investigating Habitats, where we explored local animals such as owls, squirrels, hedgehogs, and frogs. Through research, we learned fascinating facts about these animals and created wonderful group posters. Additionally, we studied the life cycle of frogs, adding a deeper understanding to our investigations.
It’s been a wonderful term, full of discovery and creativity, and we’re excited to see what the next term brings!
Have a lovely October break! We are looking forward to seeing you all next term.
Mrs Barska and Mrs Buchanan.
Literacy
It sounds like a wonderful plan to kick off Term 2! Using the RWI spelling and comprehension books will give the children a strong foundation in both word recognition and understanding text. The twice weekly reading practice, with books sent home, is a great way to reinforce learning and involve families in the process. Weekly story writing will also allow the children to apply their skills creatively and develop their own voice in writing.
Numeracy
Our number plan for Term 2 covers a strong range of foundational skills! Focusing on addition and subtraction with carrying will deepen their understanding of more complex calculations, and exploring the relationship between the two operations will enhance their problem-solving abilities.
Introducing shape concepts with mathematical language is a great way to develop spatial awareness and vocabulary. Studying angles, compass points and symmetry will add a practical and visual element that many children enjoy. Integrating hands on activities, like mirrors for symmetry could make these topics even more engaging.
