Building a core curriculum

We are mapping and building a core curriculum for the PCN staff that will supplement existing areas (national and local). The initial scoping exercise identified interesting themes that we continue to build. Our PCN will provide additional support for these areas.

Current areas included in the core curriculum based on staff feedback

• Mental Health, suicide, power of attorney, consent and capacity

• Learning and PDP

• Learning approach – for self and others

• Communicating with others (eg using SBAR)

• Creating psychologically safe environments

• Manage quality improvement projects including designing around the user: Including drafting proposals

• Manage complexity and uncertainty: complex patients, complex scenarios

• Develop an ethical approach

• Teaching and training others

• Coaching and supervision

• Managing meetings

• Draft case studies

• Providing feedback

• Learning needs

• Intentional learning
