Marcus I
Displacement: Baker's Massacre
Overview: In this unit, students will research Baker’s massacre independently, critically analyzing sources and then condensing and conveying their findings to their fellow students. Students may use any form of media as well as primary and secondary sources so long as it pertains to the massacre. This should help students to learn how to independently research by practicing critical analyses of sources. After critically analyzing their sources, they will prepare notes to both turn in to the teacher and to participate in a Harkness discussion on Baker’s massacre. This should help to condense information into pertinent information for their peers. By looking through a variety of sources together and sharing with their classmates, students should be able understand that there is more to history than what one source can portray.

MYC Three Lesson Sequence
MYC Lesson Plan 1
Purpose: To introduce students to critically analyzing sources as well as Baker's Massacre.
Reflection: Pre assessment was not written down or recorded so in the future it will be documented for reference at the end of the unit. Notes were also not recorded to monitor student engagement or progress. It might be a good practice to do in the future.
MYC Lesson Plan 2
Purpose: To critically analyze multiple documents on Baker's Massacre and share findings with peers.
Reflection: Pre assessment was not written down or recorded so in the future it will be documented for reference at the end of the unit. The timeline was created informally without any guidance. Guidance will be given in the future.
MYC Lesson Plan 3
Purpose: To use previous critical analyses to form an argument about what the students actually thought that happened during Baker's Massacre and to articulate why this particular way of looking at history is important.
Reflection: Might combine the pre and post assessment in the future and come up with a new pre assessment. Student self-assesments will also be implemented.
