1989 - 1990
On initiative of Siegfried Hess and Gerd Heppke, professors at the Technische Universität in Berlin, four physicists were invited to become fellows of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin: Alfred Saupe from the Kent State University (USA), Richard Hornreich from the Weizmann Institute (Israel), Howard Hanley from the Institute for Atmospheric Research in Denver (USA) and P.P. from Laboratoire de Physique des Solides in Orsay (France).
During this memorable period (fall of the Berlin wall on 9 November 1989) I was simultaneously working on anchoring transitions and Kossel diagrams with Heinz Kitzerow in the group of Gerd Heppke at the Stranski Institute.
