1970 – DEA de Physique des Solides at the University Paris-Sud in Orsay, France.
1972 – PhD with Etienne Guyon at the Laboratoire de Physique des Solides in Orsay.
1973 – Chargé des Recherches at CNRS.
1976 – Habilitation with Etienne Guyon at the Laboratoire de Physique des Solides in Orsay.
1979 – Post-doc with R.B. Meyer at Brandeis University.
1984 – Directeur des Recherches at CNRS.
1989 – Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin.
