Directions of anchorings produced by evaporated SiO films depend on the angle of incidence of the evaporating beam. The anchoring is planar monostable in C, oblique bistable between C and B, and oblique monostable between B and A.
Texture in a nematic droplet spread on a SiO film producing oblique bistable anchoring. The choice between the two equivalent directions of the anchoring occurs during the spreading of the nematic droplet.
