BASIC/Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code, is a 'general purpose' programming language.
BASIC, is a non-technical programming language...which is frequently used to teach people who are complete beginners how to program.
It was invented during the early 1960's...at Dartmouth College, USA...by professors Kemeny & Kurtz.
There are many different versions of the BASIC language invented by: Microsoft, including: BASIC/BASICA/QBASIC/Visual BASIC/VBScript/SmallBASIC/VB.NET/-etc.
Other BASIC's include: Commadore 64 BASIC/ZX Spectrum Sinclair BASIC/Atari FASTBASIC/Atari STOS Basic/RM Nimbus BASIC/-etc. This list could go on and on...as there is, literally, tons of them...nearly every computing machine had it's own somewhat 'unique' BASIC version. For example, I recall using hand held PSION XPII/3a models...which used a language called: OPL/Organiser Programming Language which was very BASIC-like in syntax/feel.
QB64, is just simply another different BASIC dialect...an independent adaptation that was not invented by Microsoft.
When you already know how to use one BASIC language, however...; then, it's usually possible to fairly quickly and easily be able to adopt to using almost any other BASIC dialect.
-(*NOTE*: QB64, is the BASIC version I tend to download/and, run inside of Windows 10 Professional operating system...; this is because, QB64, just like it's name implies...is a 64 bit program/whereas, QBASIC is a 32 bit program...which doesn't work on a 64 bit operating system platform.)-
