Challenge:
Streamline respirator recertification efforts.
SoCalGas employees must be recertified on how to use respirators on an annual basis. With one trainer dedicated to facilitate respirator training and conduct fit tests, recertification courses could not be scheduled in a timely manner.
Strategy:
Design a suite of micro-learning modules. Each module focusing on one respirator equipment.
Impact:
With the adoption of eLearning to cover the respirator essentials, ILT was reduced to half-day sessions that included fit testing.
Challenge:
Onboard new Station Technician on the essentials of electrical safety.
New Station Technicians may wait weeks until their next ILT new hire course is scheduled. During that time, they do support Station staff around equipment that could expose them to hazards they are not aware of.
Strategy:
Using Articulate Storyline, design one module to help new Station Technicians anticipate and avoid injury from electrical-related hazards by adopting electrical work and personal practices that will keep them and their peers safe. Module culminates in scenario-based questions which help learners apply the best practices cited in the module with their environment.
Impact:
Enhanced awareness of safe behavior around the electrical components within gas facilities.
Immediate behavior change in the correct application of plugging in equipment in a gaseous environment.
