The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) program is designed to prepare aspiring teachers with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. One of the most crucial parts of the program is the internship, which serves as a bridge between academic learning and real-world teaching experience. During the internship, students are placed in schools to gain firsthand experience in handling classroom situations, understanding student dynamics, and managing various school-related responsibilities.
As part of our B.Ed program, my co-trainees and I had the opportunity to join Shree Z.K. Mendapara Secondary School, Sardar Patel Institute, as interns. The internship lasted for about three and a half months, and it was a truly enriching and valuable learning experience.
As interns, we were entrusted with various responsibilities that helped us understand the real-life duties of a teacher. Teaching was, of course, our primary role. We prepared lesson plans, conducted classes, and ensured that the students grasped the concepts effectively. Beyond teaching, we also managed daily administrative tasks (DA) and checked students' papers, which gave us insights into the organizational aspects of running a school.
We maintained detailed log books to record our daily activities and experiences. These logs not only served as a record of our work, including paper-checking and grading but also helped us reflect on our teaching methods and improve them over time. Additionally, we took charge of arranging lectures and ensuring the smooth flow of academic activities.
One of the most memorable aspects of the internship was participating in Parent-Teacher Meetings. These meetings allowed us to interact with parents, understand their concerns, and discuss students' progress. It was a great learning experience to see the importance of collaboration between teachers and parents for the overall development of students.
We also got the chance to encourage students to participate in sports and other extracurricular activities. Taking students to sports events and motivating them to showcase their talents was incredibly rewarding. Moreover, we took part in managing and organizing various school events, ensuring that everything ran smoothly and successfully.
This internship was a transformative phase in my teaching journey. It provided a practical understanding of what it means to be a teacher, balancing multiple responsibilities with care and dedication. The experience I gained at Shree Z.K. Mendapara Secondary School has played a crucial role in shaping my teaching skills and reinforcing my passion for education.
