To help students prepare for final exams, the Department of English conducts an annual review of internal exam sheets under the guidance of Dilip Barad Sir, along with Prakruti Ma’am and Megha Ma’am. This review helps students identify common mistakes, improve their writing skills, and learn how to structure their answers better. By analyzing their responses, they understand key concepts more clearly and express their ideas more effectively.
Along with this, the department also organizes a workshop called Essay Type Answer Analysis to further improve academic writing. The workshop focuses on important skills like building strong arguments, maintaining a clear flow of ideas, and improving clarity in writing. Through discussions and feedback, students receive useful tips to enhance their writing style and present well-structured answers in exams.
Students of the Department of English at MKBU had the chance to attend a series of expert lectures on Indian Poetics by Vinod Joshi. These sessions covered important concepts like Rasa, Dhvani, Vakrokti, and Auchitya, which are the core ideas of classical Indian literary criticism. The lectures helped students understand how these theories still influence the study and interpretation of literature today.
The sessions aimed to deepen students’ knowledge of traditional poetic ideas while encouraging them to think critically about modern literary analysis. With engaging discussions and clear examples, the lectures connected ancient literary traditions with contemporary interpretations. The Department of English sincerely thanks Vinod Joshi for sharing his knowledge and Dilip Barad for organizing these valuable academic sessions.
On September 29, 2023, the Department of English at Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University hosted a special lecture on Snehi Parmar's Sabhapatratani Ghazal, presented by Himal Pandya. The session focused on self-criticism, identity, and self-awareness, encouraging students to think deeply and discuss these ideas. It showed how poetry helps question society’s rules and personal beliefs, leading to a better understanding of oneself and the world.
The lecture also explored Abhinavagupta’s idea of different types of audiences: Samajik (social), Prekshak (observer), and Prashnik (questioner) and how they connect to Cultural Studies. The session inspired students to be more self-aware and empathetic, highlighting how literature can shape thoughts and personal growth.
