Block teaching is a method of teaching where B.Ed. trainees focus on learning and practicing teaching skills intensively over a short period, known as a "block." This is different from the regular way of teaching, where lessons are spread over a longer time. In block teaching, each block usually lasts a few weeks, allowing trainees to deeply understand the teaching process and apply what they learn in real classrooms.
In the B.Ed. program, block teaching is very useful because it gives teacher trainees a chance to experience real classroom teaching. It helps them understand how to plan lessons, manage a class, and apply teaching methods practically. This method bridges the gap between theory and practice, making future teachers more confident and prepared.
In our B.Ed. program, we had a block teaching experience for one week. During this time, we had to take classes in a systematic way and teach students properly. I was part of block teaching in our 2nd semester, which took place at Shri Gagjibhai G Sutaria Primary School. Our mentors divided all the students into groups, and I was in a group we named "Marjivana Moti."
As part of this program, I taught subjects like English and Sanskrit as my major subjects. I also taught other subjects like Hindi, Gujarati, Sociology, and P.T. We taught students from 6th to 8th standards. Our responsibilities were not just limited to teaching. We also managed the daily assembly, arranged events, and organized interesting competitions to motivate students to participate. At the end of the block teaching, we held a prize distribution ceremony where we announced the results of all the competitions and distributed prizes to the winners.
Block teaching is a memorable experience. It not only helps teacher trainees gain practical experience but also teaches them how to handle different tasks at school, like organizing events, managing classes, and encouraging students. My experience during block teaching was very enriching. It gave me the confidence to teach, manage a classroom, and create a fun and engaging learning environment for students.
