Intercollege Yoga Competition
Intercollege Yoga Competition
I participated in an inter-college yoga competition on August 8, which was a truly great learning experience. I arrived at the University Yoga Hall at 8:30 am to register. After all contestants had arrived, the program began with a welcome by our sports head, who also explained the rules of the competition. There were 10 boys and 39 girls participating. The boys’ tournament started first, divided into two slots. After completing both slots, the girls’ competition began, with approximately five slots for the participants. The competition had two parts:
Compulsory Round: Five asanas, each held for 1 minute.
Optional Round: Each contestant performed one of their five favorite pre-selected asanas, held for 30 seconds. Time was recorded individually for each competitor.
The competition was very tough, and all contestants were highly skilled. Yogasanas performed included [list of asanas]. In the end, the top 5 contestants were selected, with 3 placed on standby. Seeing the flexibility and skill of the other participants was both shocking and inspiring. I learned a lot from observing them and improving my own practice. I am especially grateful to the sports committee leader for their continuous encouragement and support throughout.
Yoga Day CelebrationÂ
Dates: 19–21 June 2024
Venue: Department of English
We had a three-day preparation and celebration for Yoga Day, starting with practice sessions on 19 and 20 June, followed by the main event on 21 June.
During the practice sessions, we focused on both mental and physical aspects of yoga. On the first day, we learned about the history and benefits of yoga, practiced breathing techniques like Nadi Shodhana and Kapalbhati, and did gentle stretches to improve flexibility. On the second day, we concentrated on physical yoga postures such as Tadasana, Bhujangasana, and Vrikshasana, followed by a cool-down and guided relaxation in Shavasana. I, along with Dhatri Parmar, helped guide some yoga steps for the participants, which was a fulfilling experience.
On Yoga Day (21 June), we all came together—students, faculty, and staff—to perform yoga as a group. It was inspiring to see how inclusive the event was, welcoming participants of all fitness levels. The Celebration Committee collaborated with the Sports Committee to organize the venue, instructors, and overall logistics, which made the event smooth and enjoyable for everyone.
Being part of these sessions and the main celebration gave me a chance to actively contribute, guide participants, and experience the teamwork involved in organizing such events. Overall, it was a rewarding experience that strengthened my understanding of yoga and community participation.
