Cranium Cafe is the platform students will use to schedule appointments. You can also check in with fellow PALs and PAL coordinators via Cranium if you see them online.
PALs must be logged into Cranium Cafe during their prep sessions when you are not working in the SC Zoom Room. You can log on by going to our PAL Canvas page and clicking on the Cranium Cafe button.
You should only log into Cranium from the PAL Canvas Homepage by clicking on the "Cranium Cafe" button. If you are prompted to log in again, please use your Canvas credentials.
Cranium Cafe has a few different sections you'll need to be aware of. You can find these on the left hand menu:
English PAL Class: This is what you're land when you first enter Cranium Cafe.
Campus Calibrate: This is where you can see the Cranium Cards for all the PALs who are working during the fall.
Help (bottom of the page): This connects you with Cranium representatives if you are having technical issues and a PAL Coordinator is unavailable.
Cranium Cafe only works with Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Please download one of these if you don't have it already, and use this browser for all your PAL work.

Your Cranium Card is an important way for students to communicate with you, sign up for sessions with you, and easily access your sessions online. You embed your Cranium Card directly on your PAL Group Homepage so it is easy for your students to find.
To set up your Cranium Card, please use these instructions (Step-by-step with screen shots) or watch this video. Be sure to follow these Field Instructions .
After your instructor has published their class, follow copy & paste this button to your PAL Group Homepage. Then hyperlink your Cranium Card URL to this button following these instructions.
Your Cranium Calendar is the best way to let your students know when you can meet them and to get them to commit to an appointment with you. Please set up your Cranium Calendar carefully with the following steps:

The end date for your recurring tutoring times should be that last day of instruction not finals.

Consider making your own video to show your classes how to make an appointment using your Cranium Cafe card.
Students will receive a session confirmation and reminder email that includes the day, time, and sign-in link for the session.

While students attend online PAL groups on a walk-in basis, they must set appointments for in-person PAL groups.
In-person PAL groups are not set up on your Cranium Cafe office hour calendar but through "Schedule & View Meetings" in the Cranium Cafe navigation menu.

When students set appointments, they will receive a session confirmation and reminder email that includes the day, time, and on-campus location for the group.

If you've applied for a Success Center Sling Shift, students in any class at Chaffey can set an appointment with you through Schedule Appointment button on the Arts, Communication & Design (ACD) Success Center Canvas course.

Success Center Sling shifts are 4 hours long, so you'll need to schedule a 15-minute break sometime in the middle of your shift. Watch the video, Scheduling Breaks on Cranium Cafe for the details.

During finals week, PAL tutors will be doing essay tutoring only during one-on-one tutoring hours. To limit your students to essay tutoring in Cranium Cafe, you will need to
Adjust your regular recurring office hours so they end on the last day of instruction not finals.
Create office hours for finals week that have a single reason code: tutoring session.
PALs can receive "Offline Messages" from their students that will go directly to their Panther email.
PALs should not provide students with their personal email.
PALs should not provide email (asynchronous) feedback for students on their class assignments or DLAs.
When you are working in the SC Zoom room, the front desk staff will check your appointments as they arrive. If you would also like to check your appointments, you can do so by clicking on Cranium Cafe (orange button near the top), and select "My Cafe Appointments" from the drop down menu.
Can't log into Cranium? If you get an additional log in notice, try logging in again using your Canvas credentials.
Students can't make appointments? Check to make sure "Walk-Ins" is unchecked on your schedule. Also, double check that your session times are are listed under the PAL Spring Group. Still having problems? Email Kimberly.George@chaffey.edu.
