Your Canvas and Accudemia profile will humanize you and encourage students to contact you for sessions or quick questions.
Create a Google survey to find out what days/times work best for your students to meet with you for tutoring and group sessions. These times will be set aside for your students; however, you can always take walk-ins if your students do not show up for tutoring. Your group sessions can be converted to one-on-one tutoring hours if students do not participate.
Share this survey with your students on the first day of class.
Please email your professor to introduce yourself, share your tutoring/ group session hours, your Cranium Card link, and learn a bit about the class. (Click here for an email template.)
Your professor might want to schedule a brief meeting with you before the semester begins as well, or they might share information about the class via email. Please follow their lead.
Students access resources when they're easy to find. To make locating your hours, contact information, and other resources as easy as possible, you and your instructor will set up a PAL Group page and a PAL tutoring button. Here's what you'll do:
On the first day of class, after your instructor has set up the PAL tutoring Button on their Canvas shell, please follow the instructions on the Canvas page of this handbook. to create your PAL group homepage
Post this button and your Cranium Card URL on your home page.
Post this Success Center Zoom Room button.
Post a welcome/ introductory message and/or video
Post instructions on how to make an appointment (Samples here.)
For many students, remembering to complete work and managing deadlines is a major challenge in the online format. Sending Group announcements and reminders will be a key means of helping your students to participate in sessions and stay engaged in their class.
Please send your first message to the class on Wednesday or Thursday of week 1. You can use these instructions to help you send your first announcement. Your announcement should include:
An introductory video message (explains who you are and how you'll help them over the semester)
Your session times and the topic of your first group session. (Recommended: Exploring Canvas)
Instructions on how they can contact you, via Canvas of Chaffey email.
