Federal Metro Tenant Association
The FMTA is the oldest and largest tenant association in Canada with 3,000 members and continues to grow today. They provide many resources and services including the Tenant Hotline to answer specific questions tenants have.
York South Weston Tenant Union
A group of tenants helping organize and advocating for tenant rights in the York South Weston area. There are a number of tenant associations in that area that make up their membership.
Advocacy Centre for Tenants Ontario
ACTO works to provide legal advice and representation to tenants in Ontario. They are a speciality legal clinic focused on housing rights.
ACORN Canada
ACORN is a community union that focuses on various issues that are important to low and moderate income people. They work on multiple campaigns that assist those in need of affordable housing and host tenant workshops.
Parkdale Organize
Community members in Parkdale who organize and build neighborhood power. They do a lot of work around supporting local tenants who are fighting displacement, rent increases, and disrepair.
SERVICES
Tenant Hotline
The FTMA runs the tenant hotline which offers free counselling to tenants in Toronto. You can call (416) 921-9494 for information on tenant rights.
Legal Clinics
ACTO through their Tenant Duty Counsel program have 30 legal clinics. If you are a tenant that has a hearing at the Landlord and Tenant Board they can provide resources and assistance.
Toronto Rental Housing & Tenant Information
The City of Toronto provides resources and services for tenants. This includes connections to legal assistance and housing. They also have programs to help eligible tenants pay for their rent or utilities.
