The AHWG is made of Oakwood Vaughan community members and co-chaired by Cheryll Case (CP Planning) and Bill Worrell (OVCO). Everyone is welcome to help us advocate for affordable housing in our community. Some examples of our work include: advocating for inclusionary zoning, working towards a Right to Remain policy and identifying sites where affordable housing stock in OV could be increased.
The TSP has conducted a number of different types of workshops such as tenant rights and AHWG meetings. However, we are also hosting housing workshops that give folks further information on different planning processes and gaining affordable housing. The first of these workshops is occurred in March and centred around how community members can gain affordable housing. We will be hearing from panelists who have achieved or are working to achieve affordable housing in other Toronto neighborhoods.
Over the past year CP Planning in consultation with OVCO has developed a Planning Backgrounder to provide resources to the community about the different planning processes in Toronto and how they impact affordable housing, especially in OV. We also have other housing resources listed for community members to use.
