Education Outreach Program

On February 5th Marici Reid and John Mellott presented an education outreach program on mollusks to a 4-H marine science club in Linn County. The club is led by Christy Tye from Lebanon, who learned about our shell club by visiting our shell show at the Oregon State Fair last year. Marici provided a 45-minute overview program on mollusks, and John did a second 45-minute program on marine shells and marine fossil shells that can be found in Oregon. About 20 kids and adults attended the outreach program.

In addition, Marici received the club’s Jean McCluskey Award for best educational display and her large giant clam, Tridacna gigas (Linnaeus, 1758) was named the ‘Shell of The Show’. The ‘People’s Choice Award’, in which people voted for their favorite shell display, went to Brenda Russell.
