As a responsible teacher, I have managed behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment in the following ways:
Giving an unhappy child time to calm down before talking to her.
Calmly taking it out with the above child about her feelings that is, what made her unhappy while she tries to think how she can do better next time.
Examples of rewards for good behavior that pupils love; a star and a smiley.
Class rules board: The pupils came up with the rules and I often remind them that they aren't my rules but theirs which works very well.
I encourage appropriate behaviour by giving the pupils time to think about and reflect on their behaviour. It helps the pupils to understand that the teacher is not just being unkind to them but the expected behaviour should be upheld at all times.
