My son developed eczema when he was five months old and had subsequent issues like sleep problems, poor concentration, feeding problems etc. He also experienced growth spurts every three months. I spent a lot of time to research on ways to help him attain his physical, mental, social and emotional development milestones.
I would tailor-make both indoor and outdoor activities for him every day such as water play, gardening, working on puzzles which really helped him build his concentration skills. Dr Maria Montessori contended that when a child finds something, they are interested in, they learn to concentrate.
I had gained a lot of knowledge which could help more children and parents to keenly observe, listen and nurture children as a teacher. I researched how to get into teaching (I was previously a computer scientist) and came across the PGCEi (postgraduate certificate in education) course offered in partnership with Braeburn Schools. When I inquired, I found out that they offer scholarships to committed high achievers. I interviewed for the scholarship panelled by the Braeburn group of schools’ top managers. I was thrilled to have been awarded the scholarship and from that moment, I knew I was on the right path.
The teacher-training process in the British curriculum schools tremendously increased the magnitude of knowledge and experience I am using to impact the lives of each child that I work with. I have helped several pupils who had previously struggled with learning or behavioural difficulties to take a positive approach towards schooling which in turn improved their learning. I am living my dream of impacting the lives of children in the most magnificent way.
The immense potential I have as a teacher is what I would like you to have in mind as you go through my professional profile (PDP) given my personality and subject knowledge. My other qualities should also be noted, such as my willingness to explore possibilities outside the classroom, my great work ethics, organisation and time-management skills, and my friendly yet firm approach to teaching and learning.
